Plan for  Highland Family Resource Centre

Prince George, B.C. - Highland Elementary School in Prince George is getting a new life.  Closed by School District 57 a few years ago because of declining enrolment, the school will become the new “hub” for a family resource centre that will provide 77 new child care spaces, and eventually, other services.

The Provincial Government has provided   $500 thousand dollars for the renovations and operational set up , the programs will be run by the Family YMCA of Prince George.

(at right,  children in the  Y childcare program sit patiently with their care giver,  waiting for the official announcement)

Y Board Chair, Pat Flack, says there will be a need to  hire more  child care providers and the cost of running the programs will be covered by  child care fees “But the Y  has always  provided services  to  anyone regardless of ability to pay” says Fleck  who says those who cannot afford but need the service will  be allowed to  use the  services anyway.

The new facility is expected to be ready in time for the September 2008 school year.

The vision is to have a centre which will also provide health care services, family support and  sport programs

My apologies, you are absolutely correct, it is Highland Elementary.
Thank you so much for pointing out the error.
I apologize for not having my head in the right space.
