Prince George, B.C. - At noontime today, Prince George Fire Rescue crews from two halls were called to Victoria and 15th for a natural gas leak.

A BC Hydro crew was working in the area and reported the leak.  The smell of natural gas was readily apparent, and the escaping gas could be easily heard from the street.

Fire Rescue crews evacuated several surrounding business, set up precautionary hose lines, and monitored gas levels in nearby buildings while Terasen crews located and sealed off the gas supply pipe.

One building had an explosive gas accumulation, and was ventilated with a positive pressure fan.  Victoria Street and surrounding avenues were closed to traffic with the assistance of RCMP until the leak was stopped.  Hydro was also cut to businesses in the area.

By approximately  2:30 , the gas leak had been stopped and all danger had subsided.  All roads were re-opened, and hydro was restored.  Terasen crews remain on the scene to repair the ruptured line.

There were no injuries during this incident.

Good job to all involved.
Ooh, scary.
metalman.
A real positive for Prince George - we have a great Fire Department!!!!
No coincidence that that is one of the lowest parts of the PG downtown flood plain and with the recent high water underground that is just now subsiding maybe a shift occured from spring thaw?

It would be interesting to know how that liability fits with the Kinsley gas infrastructure deal where the city took ownership of assets and liability. Did Terazan know something they didn't tell us?
Yeah it's all a big conspiracy. Blame it on the Mayor.

Accidents happen - I love how everyone is out to get the Mayor.

Great job by emergency crews. I am proud of our local "heroes" who always put their own lives on the line for the rest of us.
Thank you crews! We are glad you are there :)
