Another 6 km of Highway 97  will be  resurfaced.

There will be a contract awarded for the resurfacing  of a stretch of highway from Azouzetta south in the Pine Pass.

"This highway is a major route of commerce and travel for northern British Columbians and the consistent flow of traffic has caused increased stress to our roads," said Prince George North MLA Pat Bell. "These improvements will provide a safe, strong, reliable infrastructure for residents and visitors to the North for years to come."

The resurfacing project is scheduled to begin June 30, and be completed by September 15, 2008.  The work will include hot-in-place recycling on this stretch of highway.

The section identified has shown signs of stress resulting from an increase in heavy traffic use and traffic volumes.  This project will strengthen the highway and help reduce maintenance costs.

I don't think the hot in place recycling will fix the frost heaves from the faulty base for much more than the short term.
Heavy traffic use from Azouzetta to the Pine Pass, or any other area North of Salmon Valley is non-existant. Putting pavement in areas where voters live is an old political ploy.

If their is heavy traffic we should pave the whole highway, rather than a piecemeal approach.
You need to go up there and do a truck count, very heavy use yes indeed.
You can find heavy traffic on the I5 or between Toronto and Montreal. A couple of hundred vehicles per day on 97 North hardly falls into the heavy traffic catagory.

If Bell had said a small increase in traffic,he would have been closer to the mark. Once the logging trucks are off the roads whats left??? Where do these cars and trucks come from??
