I witnessed a mva and went to court as a witness against the totally drunk driver that caused it and lost a days pay. Not a problem as I was doing the right thing.
The case was put over to another time so the defence lawyer could figure out something with his case. I was once again ask to attend as a witness. 3 days before court I was called and told that I needn't attend as the case was dropped because it took too long. Now I have a problem. Try and convince me that I should be a witness for any court proceedings ever again.
The crown prosecutor in this case is the same one that did something similar in another case a few years back, isn't she special. And she gets paid for it.
Hopefully not too many people share your attitude. I suppose that if it were a more serious case they would just arrest you for not showing up for court.
That is a bad attitude lostfaith, but an understandable one.

Take note to RUEZ's comment however. A friend of mine didnt bother to show up to testify one time and the judge issued a bench warrant. Long story short he ended up on the hill for the weekend because this all happened on a friday. Forget about missing a days work, do you wanna spend a couple days on the hill? Nuff said.

Our justice system is broken, but as law abiding citizens we must obey or risk being treated like a common criminal, kinda ironic eh? With all of the support and light sentencing they have for the real crooks, it seems only fair that they treat the honest hardworking people with a little more respect. If we have to take time off to do our civic duty, we should be properly (NOT lavishly) compensated. I am not sure what they pay now, but thirty years ago it was $7.00 to spend the whole day waiting to not be called. Losing a days pay could have a real impact on someone who does not earn a lot of money. There oughta be a law!
metalman.
Ruez and Yam, I never said I refused to appear in court that would be stupid. However my appetite for getting involved is not as it used to be. All you gotta do is look at my net name and you will see why. In my 48 years on this planet I really have lostfaith and not just in our so called justice system.
All evil needs to prosper is for an honest man to turn his back.
In 1965 I got $21.00 That was alot of money!!

I've always gone when summoned, but for all the fuss i might as well stayed home. The only thing I dread is jury duty - now that is a real waste of productive time.

I agree with Lostfaith on the entire court process. I remember years ago thinking that going to court was a place where the truth really mattered. I was SOOOOOO wrong! I too was going to testify concerning something I had seen as a witness. However, with all the adjournments, I bet I spent two weeks of pay over the course of one year. The lack of organization, preparation on the part of all parties, and total dishonesty (at times) disgusted me.
It doesn't mean I won't do it again, but it does mean that I am well aware of the fact that within the court, well, the truth is often irrelevant!
