Representatives from several Parent Advisory Committtes join  MLAs Pat Bell, Shirley Bond and John Rustad to celebrate funding

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. -  - Eleven Prince George schools will see improvements to their playground equipment, thanks to more than $168,700 in funding from the Province.

The organizations receiving funding for the playground projects include:
* Glenview Elementary Parent Advisory Council (PAC) receives $11,500.
* Heritage Elementary PAC receives $8,639.
* Highglen Montessori Elementary School PAC receives $14,750.
* Shady Valley PAC and Community Association receive $11,711.
* Edgewood Elementary PAC receives $18,885.
* Harwin Elementary School PAC receives $15,919.
* Van Bien Elementary School PAC receives $20,000.
* Westwood Elementary School PAC receives $15,500
* College Heights Elementary School PAC receives $19,812.
* Malaspina Elementary PAC receives $19,000.
* Peden Hill Elementary School PAC receives $13,070.

This is the first time a government in British Columbia has invested in refurbishing playgrounds.

A call for applications last fall for the first round of grants yielded 281 proposals. More than one-third met eligibility criteria, and successful applicants were determined based on their demonstrated need.

Specifically, the Province is giving priority to PACs at schools with:
* No playground equipment, or with equipment that is scheduled for removal this year, or with equipment that has already been partially removed;
* Support from the local school authority for installing the equipment; and
* Matching funds already raised.

The grants are part of the first year in a three year playground program commitment of $1.5 million this year and $1 million the next two years in gaming grants from the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General.

get ur dun....and give the mayer a beer .
That is great ! That is $168,700 that local parents will not have to try to fund raise ! Way to go people.
Thats great news. But some of the PAC in other school districts have not been receiving much assistance from the prov. I know of a group that has just donated $2500 to several PAC to assist them in their efforts to replace perfectly good play ground equipment with new perfectly good play ground equipment.

IMO some outfit that builds metal and plastic playground equipment got to a govt. agency that determined that the old stuff was not healthy and now is cashing in a mega sales.

It almost the same as the Canadian Food Inspection Agency that was responsible for the destroying of perfectly healthy herd of livestock and a ranch in the Vanderhoof area this winter. When is this BS going to stop????
Go figure.
Well there was 1.5 Million shared throughout the province and another 1 million next year and the year after that. I am sure some of those other PAC's will get some dollars along the way.
