A lot of profit being lost sitting around at the cop shop!
DUNFOR
Why would you want to see cocaine, especially crack cocaine legalized? Do you have any idea what that crap does to people?
Dial a dope - Does that refer to the guy who answered the phone ?

Good work, get this crap off the streets. One of the biggest social problems we have in this town.
I personally do not drink, smoke, or do drugs. Although I used to... it wasn't because it was illegal that I quit ~ it was for health reasons and quality of life. Coming from that... my conclusion is you can't "control" anything because of a law. People use because they are injured souls & out of control. They've never been able to legislate personal choice and never will.
Because I find something unacceptable in my life doesn't mean I can make that choice for another. I've had family members use to the point of a near death experience... it was hard to watch their "journey in the dark side" however, there was nothing I could do or say to make it better for them. Instead of a war on drugs we need to find a way to build people up to the point they have no need for that stimuli.
Lostfaith...

dunfor is simply being logical.

1, you will NEVER dry up demand no matter
how many police you put into the fight.
Unless of course you would like to see
Canada turned into a full on police
state??? Even then - check Arab and
Asian countries who have the death
penalty - you'll find drugs in society.

2, Where there is demand and it is illegal
you will find organized crime. We all
know what follows them.

Simple logic lostfaith.

There is another more important reason in my mind why these drugs should be easy and cheap to get hold of: The reintroduction of personnel responsibility into our culture. Allow people the freedom to fail. By allowing people to fail freely you put all the onus on the person using the drugs. If it were legal would you start using crack? Of course not, because you don't want to fail at life. Some people need to learn the hard way and if it's legal these people don't continue to pull the rest of us into the gutter along side them, with high taxes being paid for all the problems that come with it being illegal. Take this issue away from the police and put it into the hands of the medical people. It will certainly not reduce harm to nothing but I'd bet my life that the amount of harm in society these chemicals cause would be greatly reduced.

There are other reasons for doing it but don't have the room to chatter on.
Well then I suppose we should allow everyone to carry handguns wherever and whenever they want, same with drinking and driving, fly at it everyone it's only simple logic.
+1 Kevin & Ice. Prohibition has never worked & it never will.
This society isnt responsible enough to handle legalized drugs like alcohol for example so if you legalized heavy narcotics then that would really screw things up. Our hospitals would be plugged full of people who overdose. We dont need more people going to hospitals and clinics when we have honest hard working people on waiting lists already. Why should some dumbass who decides to blow his heart out by taking drugs get a transplant over someone who looks after themselves. See where im going with this? Impaired driving would be another pandora's box in itself if drugs were legalized. And you would still have to import drugs from countrys where people are killed for them every day. There is a reason why these things are illegal.. We just need a justice system that actually has some teeth to hold the people who deal this shit accountable. An education system that enhances self worth, individuality and creativity would also do wonders so the urge to do drugs will diminish.
Make the penalties harsh. That is the only way that (some) of the filth will stop dealing. How harsh? I don't know, but I have a very active imagination, here is a scenario; hook the filth on their own product, then make them quit, cold turkey, over and over again. If it weren't that I don't want to pollute, I would say put them on an island, a long cold swim from anywhere, but that would not be fair to Mother Nature. It is true that prohibition is not the answer, when you think of it, maybe legalization is. The mere thought is abhorrent to me, I have seen the effects of crack cocaine first hand (a loved one) and thus I have very strong opinions on the matter. It is viscious and deadly and I blame the filth who are in that business of misery only because they are greedy and lazy. Do not blame the addict, he/she is under the control of the drug. As long as a supply of that garbage is available, the addict will find a way to get some, and that includes stealing from anybody. We must cut off the supply, I do not know how, but harsher penalties make a lot of sense to me. If it costs us more in taxes to improve the "justice" (not) system, then so be it. Can we afford the alternative?

I agree with Kevin on the impossibility of removing drugs from our, or any culture. I also agree with the idea of letting people fail. I do think though, that when people do fail we ought to blame them for that, rather than give them excuses.
My father and mother lived through WW2, they immigrated without a safety net, lived in abject poverty in a society which treated them like untouchables, and worked their asses off. Despite beatings when they were children (by the teachers at scchool ) and experiences that rival the nightmares of most people today they, like most other people of the time lived decent lives without complaint. The difference between the people in my parents time and people today is simple. They didnt have a culture of feeling sorry for oneself, we do. No matter what stupid or evil thing someone does these days, there is an organization there to explain why it isnt the persons fault. The fact is that if you are an adult and you are on drugs, or a criminal, or on welfare then it is your own fault. Take responsibility for yourself. As for you advocates, well stop making excuses for these people! What good does it do them? As for parents, well most responsible pet owners know where their pets are at all times. If it is a common occurance that your son/daughter is out at night and you do know where then you know who is to blame. I am sick of people who cant take care of their own kids trying to blame it on their own childhoods, or intergenerational poverty etc.. Considered alongside of the hardships faced by people in other countries or in our own country in previous generations, the excuses given for peoples bad behaviour make little sense.
Sorry if i got a little off the topic there but my point is that the drug problem is a people problem. You cant stop the supply. You need to deal with the issue of why people use drugs. Like most suicides, you have to feel pretty sorry for yourself in order to take a drug that is going to ruin your life. Self pity is the cancer that needs to be treated, not poverty. I know some rich drug addicts (well they used to be rich) and a lot of poor people who would never touch the stuff. I dont think i know a single hard drug user that isnt a damn fool, ready with excuses for why he started down that road.
Caranmicil I take issue with your comment "the issue of why people use drugs" What about the instant addiction to meth and crack we hear about? Try it once and you're hooked. Sure, maybe you can make a case for stupidity just for when someone tries one of these drugs, but I won't agree with you. These young people succumb to peer pressure, not only that but maybe take a hit off a pipe being passed around, not knowing what is in it for sure, now they are addicted, do you think they keep using out of self pity?
