why???
I don't get it

The ratings are critical when it comes to advertising dollars.
These numbers are the percentage of people who tuned in. you will note that the numbers don't add up to 100% because some of the listening is to satellite or the local community station CFIS or the station at UNBC
To make it simpler let’s take CKDV, of the people who tuned in that week 11 years and older CKDV had 10% of that audience or 1 out of 10 listeners.
In Most Major cities people want to know which station is top dog
Don't care about the wolves, I run CBC Radio day and night to discourage the moose from hanging around. CBC Radio is the best as the moose hate it. The other stations just don't seem to bother the moose. CBC Radio 100%!
Two Words: Satellite Radio. Puts to shame the relentless repetition of the local stations and their pathetic commercials - why anyone listens to any of these (besides CBC - which is on satellite anyways) is beyond me.
Interesting Yama...I use CBC to keep the birds out of my strawberry patch!
They hate all that music that you can't dance to!
:-)
People still listen to non-satellite radio?

Are they the same ones hoarding all the pennies?
"People still listen to non-satellite radio? Are they the same ones hoarding all the pennies?"

Haha realitysetin!....I confess....guilty!

How did the people conducting the poll know it was 11 and up? Based on my marketing experience, I would venture to guess that was thrown in because their target is 12 and up anyhow? Could someone in the "know" please verify/disprove my assumption? Thanks.
Hey Ben...

Do those figures put a smile on your face... "Bring back Meisner on the Radio"
Good to see "The Drive" is where it belongs....yes, I am sure Ben is smiling, Rockin.
As for myself, CBC Radio One and Two have my vote, with full credits to Daybreak North, broadcast weekdays every morning from PG and Prince Rupert.
Too much classical on CBC Radio Two during the week except for the evenings. Some weekend programs are good. I hear they are going to change to less classical, which has my vote.
Don't forget about iTunes and other streaming "radio" for the workplace.
I met a DJ from the Wolf. I called the music on his station "head banging music". He disagreed. I guess I am too old, eh?
I hope this doesn't offend anyone, but I don't expect anything from PG radio other than for background noise. The only exception would be when I tune into CBC while heading out to a lake or river early in the morning. I actually enjoy much of their non-music programming. Ben, I used to love your show as well. I guess I'm a sucker for "real" dialogue and not terrible music (IMHO of course, LOL).
Harbinger: are you sure he was from the Wolf? That station plays country....
These are the breakdowns of the listening audience.

How many of the potential audience listen?
CBC 15% 17%

With the demographics and those percentages, I am going to start to put my ads on CBC .....

;-)
CBC News is the best, but the rest is usually Sesame Street for adults.
I listen to the Wolf all the time.
Great station !!!
We may as well listen to that sad sack CBC. After all, we're paying for it! I love taxes.
Country Music... Tells a story, horse died, wife ran away with best friend, cow quit milkin, pickup truck broke down and so on. Play it backwards and horse comes back to life, wife moved back in, cow started milkin again, pickup ran good. Ain't life great. Folks thats why the WOLF is on top.
Hi Ben. Pray tell us what the numbers are for Sirius sat. radio? Like uh, it's pretty hard to go back to local 'free' junk radio if you ever listen to Bubba the love sponge or the Scott Ferrall sport show...or indeed Hard Core Sports on 186.
It would be nice to have an AM station with a 60's to 80's format, a talk show ie Bill Goode, Adler on line. With AM a person could hear more than 20 klicks down the road. I do have satellite and rarely listen to the local FM stations while driving, the reception isn't all that great unless you are right downtown. Biggest mistake CKPG made was to go to FM in my opinion.
Southfortguy and I, against the masses!
Local commercial radio is obnoxious to me. They play the same garbage top forty style
music (yes there some good songs) and the advertising, that is what really gets to me. It is loud and repetitive. The new station (93.1) is great background noise, and the university station (88.7) has a varied format, not for everybody, but it at least offers variety. CBC 1 & 2 and satellite radio are my choices.
metalman.
I thought everyone was bashing CBC radio on this site not so long ago. Nice to see that some people recognize it as the high quality service that it is. That's one tax cost I'm happy to continue to support.
On the other hand, the support for CBC is an indication that the private radio networks need to give their head a shake. What is CBC doing that is better?

No mainline canned format for one thing.

Private radio people could rebroadcast CBC Radio and just drop the stuff that is too silly or annoying, fill it in with a variety of tunes and the ratings would be through the roof!

I used to talk to a "country singer" about his stuff and he found that he was told he could only sell stuff that was in a predetermined and canned "country" format. No variety in style or delivery allowed. Private radio stations are now run the same way.
Hey what about the community station CFIS? They play some great tunes.
The big guys rely on demographics. If you are over 55 or live more than fifteen miles out of the city, they don't care about you. Switching from AM to FM has left a lot of people in the dark. We need a big 50,000 watt AM station to cover the north, with some real people manning it. Good selection of music, talk, sports and community info. This would be a winner. IMHO
Although I am a staunch supporter of CBC radio, I have to point out that even they have canned 'fill' Their overnight programming is purchased from broadcasters around the world, it is not unusual to turn on CBC in the middle of the night and hear a program that originated in Poland, or Australia for example.
metalman.
I guess I am just surprised by the results.
