Prince George,B.C. -   Despite some early "bumps in the road" the  rehab community of New Hope  is making progress.

Lorne Mayencourt the MLA from Vancouver Burrard who spearheaded the conversion of Baldy Hughes into a community for people who want to kick their addictions,  says progress is being made "We are moving forward every day at the project."

"We have had a few pitfalls" he said, referring to some of the problems at the community including one where a resident stole the company truck and took off into Prince George with it. “We have to pick ourselves up after things like this, shake our self off and get on with doing what we believe is right" Mayencourt said.

"We are making great progress, we are in the process of re building a number of the venues, and plumbing, electrical and other work is under way so it may not show on the surface but we are happy with how things are going."

Mayencourt says of course there are going to be bumps in the road . "This is the first time something like this has been tried in BC, We are trying to take people with mental drug addictions and return them to society. I think our residents will build a good community and it will go a long way to help us all respect the difficulties that people with mental drug  addictions have."

"A new Program Director has been hired at the center and I think this will help a lot" says Mayencourt  who  is dedicating all his time to the project "I spend every waking moment I can on this project, I want it to work."

The community is fashioned after a community in Italy which treats the drug addiction wholistically, building self esteem. developing a trade, and helping them  develop the social skills they need to succeed  in all communities.

Great news !

Now, if we can model correctional facilities in a similar manner....
Certainly a better idea than giving them a bed downtown so the dealer can find them in the morning.
Ask why many community services have withdrawn their support for this project to find the real truth. The word around the University is that their are legal implications for their practice of illegal strip searches. Law suits pending.
Who is the Director?
Program director? Don't they have those guys on cruise ships, too?
