seen all the big cabinets in the corner stores for the cigarettes, if they are that worried about it why don't they sell the cigarettes in the liquor stores.
So is it just me or does our mayor appear to have alot of similarities to mayor Quimby(the mayor of Springfield/The Simpson's). Just throwing that out there for you to think about. Any fan of the long running show will know what I am referring to.
I was just wondering if the city tax payer funded trip to China by the Mayor will be bringing a Tibet flag with them? Or should they also be boycotting this trip and saving our tax-payers dollars as well as dignity as a nation that supports our national values?

Also unrelated... I hear an airline passenger in the states got TB off of an airplane that wasn't wiped down properly they were saying on CNN this morning....
So its going to be violence against women week, here we go again. Yes there is violence against women, there is also violence against men by women. We always hear about violence against women and children by men. But these women groups are silent about the violence against men and children by women. One of the biggest dangers to children under the age of three is their own mother. Almost everyday one reads about a mother killing her children but you won't hear about that from any of these womens groups, might cut into their funding. Women puts baby into microwave, women drowns three kids because her boyfriend doesn't like kids. Young girls beat a girl then post it on you tube.

Hey men haven't cornered the market on violence. How about we try and put an end to all violence.
Who's going to run for hizzoners seat in the next election???
I.M.H.O. This is who we need.
He or She must...
1. Have a good strong business background.
2. Be a tough no B.S. type of a person.
3. Be willing to clean house at city admin.
4. A hands on person that will lead the
city bureaucrates and not be led by
them.
5. A person that is prepared to be a
hatchet guy who does not care about
being political correct.
6. A person who does not care about
reaching for the next political rung on
the ladder.
7. A one time mayor that wants to go to
battle,slash,burn and generally upset
the whole rotten system.
8. Dismantle all of the little kingdoms
that have been allowed to flourish
at city hall
To sum it up we need a real redneck
a-hole who isn't afraid to kick butts and doesn't care if he gets elected again..It's called a new broom.
ANY TAKERS ???

RE: new mayor..I forgot the most important thing...He or She must NOY BE POLITICALLY CORRECT.
giterdun for mayor!!
Not to forget that she/he must be a real dedicated hater of potholes and busted curbstones and sidewalks!
Saw on Global this morning that $2.2 million is needed to "repair" the Richmond skating oval. It's not even built and they are spending this kind of money (our money) due to faulty design?
They noticed in February that the oval had problems with fungi and mold. They only decided to issue a public statement when Global asked decided to do a report on the venue. I don't understand the mechanics of how the mold and fungi got there but could it possibly be the same thing as the leaky condos?
If it needs to be *repaired* due to faulty design it is the fault of the firm which did the design and the taxpayer won't be on the hook. Standard procedure. Warranty.
Adult Handprint Poem I wrote...

Sometimes you get frustrated because I am so old
And am always telling you to do exactly as you’re told.
But everyday I’m ageing – I’ll be gone someday
I want to leave my handprint here for you to see today.
This is for you to remember when you were very small
They held you close, they helped you up, They watched you grow up tall.
The Richmond Oval kind of makes you wonder how much political spin we are getting from the government when it comes to their "on time and on budget" rhetoric.
The Convention Center in Vancouver is costing DOUBLE what it was suppose to, but they don't like to talk about that much,do they?
So what else will we find out after we have spent 1 billion dollars plus($1,000,000,000+) on the Olympics?
The Richmond Speed Skating Oval is a monstrosity of a building.
What will they do with it later on?
Who will get to pay for the upkeep on it?
Will it be the government with our tax dollars,(not!)or will it just be the people of Richmond?
I think we already know how much spin we are getting, and the truth may shock some people when the Olympic gold rush is over!
I think I can hear Mayor Jean Drapeau laughing in hell!

I am tired of the BS. I am game. Redneck? Me? Hmmm...Think I will DEFINITELY give it serious consideration!
I had an opportunity to watch the pothole repair process that everyone has been chirping about.

I have to agree, why do they waste time and money with these quasi-repairs ?

Now, that money is spent. It will not be available to re-do the repair and do it properly. These "look-alike" repairs will not last weeks, let alone months.

The only thing they accomplish is that they temporarily make it look like something is being done.
"Also unrelated... I hear an airline passenger in the states got TB off of an airplane that wasn't wiped down properly they were saying on CNN this morning...."

Boy, TB would be rampant if that is the way it was spread ....!!!!

I am just curious. Have any of you that live in the PG area seen or felt or recieved any benifits from the 2010 Olympics yet? We are all suposed to see benifits from these games. All I have seen is my wages lowered, taxes going up, the price of fuel go up, a carbon tax coming. I live 70Kms from the nearest transit. I am hoping they make a route out my way so I can use public transit and not feel the bite of the carbon tax.
The only things certain in life are Taxes and death and the 1st may kill us all....
giterdone ... that sounds like Harold Moffat ... the guy who did not want to build a new library because it is just a warehouse for books.

besides, everytime we get the business types on council they flub like crazy. Rember the last group that were one term councillors.

We very quickly find out that they were the mouth pieces, but their managers actually ran the business in many cases.....

We do not need more mouthpieces.

Those business leaders who are both the spokespeople for their business and the key inidvidual who has made that business a success are typically not prepared to leave their operation. Some would even get very frustrated with the bureaucracy and could be extremely ineffective with the push backs from various corners of both adminstration and the community.

Do you really think a Bill Gates would want to be president of the USA, for instance? A Bill Gates contributes much more to the USA and the world by being what he is than by being the president.
I am just curious. Have any of you that live in the PG area seen or felt or recieved any benifits from the 2010 Olympics yet?

That thing that hangs in the middle of the CN Centre fo replays ..... some of the money for the UNBC sportsplex ....

it's called bribe money for the hinterlands ... :-)
Help save our wild Salmon from extinction. Open netpen fish farms on the BC coast are killing our wild fish.
The provincial and federal governments don't care. Boycott farmed Salmon.
When you go out for dinner ask your server if the Salmon on the menu is wild or farmed. Don't buy it, don't eat it.
9 of every 10 farmed salmon goes to the USA. These farms are destroying our environment and natural resources.
Help save the wild Pacific Salmon.

Owl. Well I guess that's something. I never go to the CN Center. I have no use for the sportplex, so I am still not feeling any benifit from the 2010 Olympics except the life long tax we all will be payong. Vancouver is making out like bandits for these olympics. We will be paying for the lower mainland ammenities for the next 50 years, but what the heck, we've always done that in the North, nothing has changed.
"benefits from the 2010 Olympics"?
Besides a carbon tax?
Actually, yes,we can blame the 2010 Olympics for that, because the Liberals have spent so much money on the games that they are scratching for more...much more!
And we ain't seen nothing yet!
But no,we haven't really seen as much as the spin doctors would like us to think.
Sure a few token offerings here and there, but NOTHING like the tax dollars being poured into the lower mainland!
Now THAT is almost obscene!
But wait for it...there is a provincial election coming before the 2010 Olympics and Campbell and the boys will be buying votes like never before.
Gordon wants nothing more than to be standing front and center at the opening ceremonies to take the accolades from the world!
His ego cannot live without that!
And he will pay ANYTHING to get it, which could get a few bones for the north.
Calling this new tax a carbon tax on gasoline seems incorrect, we need a more accurate name for it. I have come up with a few ideas so far:

Canada Line Infrastructure Tax (CLIT) – carbon is like a clit, seemingly free…but in reality we end up paying for it.

Vancouver Olympic Management and Infrastructure Tax (VOMIT)

Vancouver Infrastructure Sustainability Assistance (VISA) tax

Has anyone else come up with an appropriate name for this tax?
Andyfreeze, if Gordon's crew doesn't get re-elected we will watch the spectacle of Ms. James standing on the podium opening the Olympics without any enthusiasm! She will also have the pleasure of having to figure out what to do about the coming native actions against the Olympics as announced on the radio today!

The Summer Olympics are being used as a political activism football and the Winter Olympics will more than likely suffer the same fate - only in our own back yard!

This guy goes into a drugstore and says to the lady behind the counter, "Do you keep stationery?" And she replies, "Only til the last minute then I go all to pieces." Hey! It's Friday, I don't have an opinion.
No question, that's a pretty scary option diplomat, and you'll get no argument from me,but the problem is,the damn politicans know that too!
That's even scarier!
I'll probably get dumped on good but here she goes...
I think our Mayor has been pretty good for our town. He is a great PG booster and should be commended.
So what if he goes to China, couple of grand - big deal- he is trying to drum up interest in our town, it just may work.
He has done lots for us and we should thank him for a job well done.
We tend to forget how many special interest groups are after this guy.
Like- but Mr. Mayor we know we have performing arts venues in town but they just are not good enough we want better, give it to us now..whaaaa!
The list goes on and on, you can't satisfy them all. My interest group wants to keep taxes as low as possible. I like the downtown the way it is - a good place for the 'bums' to hang out - let em have it.
"When you go out for dinner ask your server if the Salmon on the menu is wild or farmed."

You mean you can't taste the difference?
"Has anyone else come up with an appropriate name for this tax?"

You are, of course, assuming yours are appropriate names.

So tell me, how else are you going to encourage people to use less gasoline? Or do you feel the stuff should be virtually free such as in Venezuela and we should keep on using two barrels of oil to produce three as I understand the Tar Sands are doing right now?

I would call it SMART TAX as long as the proceeds are going to create the capacity to access alternative energy sources - wind, sun, tides, waves, geothermal, etc.
Oops .... I forgot the most obvious ... supporting research so that we only need one barrel of oil to produce three in the tar Sands. .... and eventually only 1/2 to produce three.

I understand the Peace is sitting on some as well. That could be the post Olympic boom.
"My interest group wants to keep taxes as low as possible"

Move here ... taxes are pretty low there from what I hear .... makes our downtown look like Shangri-la

Quoting: "Canada Line Infrastructure Tax (CLIT) – carbon is like a clit, seemingly free…but in reality we end up paying for it."

Really, maritimer, both offensive and unprofessional.
How could Mayor Kinsley comment that he would "not want to spend taxpayer's money on for-profit events" in dealing with the Farmers Market when he voted to have our taxes support the Couger's hockey?

"When you go out for dinner ask your server if the Salmon on the menu is wild or farmed."

"You mean you can't taste the difference?"

You missed the point Owl.
If people refuse to order the Salmon on a restaurants menu because it is toxic open netpen farmed Salmon then there will be no market for it. No market for it = no open netpen fish farms = saving wild Pacific Salmon. However.....
Yes you can taste the difference and you can see the difference, however you can't see all the toxic chemicals etc that are part of the food they feed the farmed Salmon, (did you know that it takes more protein to feed these farmed Salmon in the form of other types of fish that are harvested from the oceans around the world, than you get from one farm raised Salmon when it goes to market?) or the toxic chemicals they use to prevent these farmed Salmon from getting sick or the chemical they use to keep the sea lice from getting out of hand.
lostfaith: "Help save our wild Salmon from extinction. "

I am! I eat a can of Alaska canned Wild Pacific salmon at least three times a week. That should keep them from becoming extinct!

;)-
"Has anyone else come up with an appropriate name for this tax?"

How about 'Another Useless, Money-Grabbing, Dreamt Up Scheme To Deplete Us Of Any Spare Change We May Have Laying Around To Make Our Politicians Richer'?

Because the more taxes we pay, the more they (the politicians) can afford to give themselves a raise.

As it is, we only go somewhere when we absolutely have to. Sunday drives are a thing of the past.

"Yes you can taste the difference and you can see the difference"

So now you are catching on. They have purchased the salmon already. If it is not wild salmon, you return it tell them you cannot eat farmed salmon.

The more people do that, the quicker they will learn that farm salmon are actually more expensive.

By doing it the other way, they will simply give it to the next person.

The other tactic is that if you ask first, and they respond with farmed sample, you simply say thank you very much, I do not wish to eat here, and leave.

So, I do not think I missed the point, lostfaith ..... I am simply trying to make the process a bit more meaningful to all parties and more effective as far as your interest in stopping the raising of farmed salmon goes.
"Sunday drives are a thing of the past."

hmmmm ... I think they went with my parent's age. I remember those.

But I did not pass that on to my kids.

Sort of like drive in movies. Things of a bygone era.

Nowadays it is a walk around the block with the family dog, that costs more to maintain than a car, taking in all the gas fumes or a bike ride on the side of the road taking in all the gas fumes.

;-)

Good spin there Owl
"Life is Good"!!

He he...good one maritimer!
Even if it IS a bit lewd!

Lostfaith your info on farmed salmon is somewhat dated. You are getting your information from only one source and that source depends on grants so is a little suspect. I happen to like farmed salmon it is very good on the barbecue, better than wild, you should try it. I have been to salmon farms and I find it a very good product. Hey know how to save a wild salmon. kill it.
I wouldnt worry too much about the fish you eat.

Every product nowdays other than 'grown at home' can't be good for you..the list must be long if you think about it...

..whether it's loaded with perservatives, pumps with chemicals, stored in a tin can, wrapped in plastic...cooked in a micro wave, eaten off a syrfoam plate..

farm or fresh fish..think it really matters? nope.
Is it possible to purchase garlic anywhere in Prince George that does not come from China? Is is impossible to grow garlic in Canada?

Dated? All my info from only one source?
Just because I only put a couple links up means I get all my info from one source?
How about you do some research of your own and you will discover many things about Salmon farming and how it is destroying the environment and threatening the very existance of the wild Pacific Salmon. However by the sounds of things you could care less.
You like farmed fish better, thats fine.
Better than wild, you're entitled to your opinion.
You have been to salmon farms, so that makes it a good product?
Hmmmm, sometimes I wonder.
Norm1 here is a good link about growing garlic in Canada. I have never had success. I am located in a colder area than you...mind you its cold everywhere up here today!...that wind is brutal!

I believe that they have a garlic festival in the summer August I think in Lac La Hache or somewhere close to there....
I remember reading an artical in Beautiful British Columbia magazine a couple of years ago... Looked like a blast..... garlic Ice Cream anyone???

Seamutt, i don't often agree w/ you, but I'm totally w/ you on the violence against women comment. I agree w/ you that we should focus on all sorts of violence. Women also abuse children and women also abuse men. I think what you always hear about the women being abused because it happens more frequently and more importantly do you think a man is going tell his buddy that his wife is abusing him. I don't think so. Women talk about it. If it's not reported or discussed it certainly won't get the spot light. In regards to violence against children, well, a women is just as capable and in a lot of cases more likely to abuse a child than a man because it is usually the mom that spends the majority of time w/ the children. Just my thoughts...for the record, I am a wife & mom and there is ZERO abuse in our house.

You make me cringe...

DanSet I appreciated your poem.
There has been a lot of drama playing out in the world's financial system since our credit/debt bubble (to use a phrase that Prince George residents are very familiar with) hit a gigantic pot hole last summer.

I think everyone should educate themselves about what is going on with regards to our financial system.

As part of educating yourselves in this matter I think people should check out the following web site

http://theautomaticearth.blogspot.com/

In the second part of my post I would like to say to Peter Ewart, that I hope he soon writes an update to the excellent series of articles he has written about financial matters on opinion250.com.

In the third (and final part) of my post
I would like to respond to giterdun's post where he speculated upon who should run for the position of Mayor of Prince George.

I recall about 3 or 4 elections ago when this woman (I forget her name) ran for the position of Councillor of Prince George. She was interviewed by the local newspaper, and her platform basically was that taxpayers' money is precious and should be spent very carefully. I voted for this woman, and I was very surprised that she lost the election.

I think this woman if she is still here in Prince George should run for Mayor in the upcoming civic elections in November.
anyone hear about or go to the obrien open house for equipment training?is it open to anyone to atend?
anyone hear about or go to the obrien open house for equipment training?is it open to anyone to atend?
robichal ....

it's called service .....

when you order beef, the server asks you how you would like it done. In addition, the type of beef, as in Angus, Alberta, etc. is often identified, as is the cut.

Salmon is not salmon is not salmon.....

So, it is the restaurant that should identify what it is, and it is the server who should be doing the asking .....
Owl
There has never been a problem with beef like there is with Salmon.
There is a rather large issue that is getting larger by the day when it concerns the wild Pacific Salmon. Before there was such a thing in the restaurants as farmed salmon, when you ordered Salmon you got wild salmon. Now there is farmed salmon in the picture which is much cheaper for the restaurants to buy. They do not advertise the salmon on their menus as wild or farmed. That is why you the consumer should ask your server if it is farmed or wild, cause some restaurants don't care what it is, as long as they can sell it. When you know all the facts regarding the way these farmed fish are grown and what it takes to get them to the consumer you will be shocked and will probably not buy farmed Salmon, unless you just simply do not get it. Never mind what these open netpen farms are doing to our environment and the threat they pose to wild Salmon stocks. Just for the heck of it, even when I don't plan on ordering Salmon at a restaurant, (I catch all the Salmon I eat)I will ask the server if it is farmed or wild. Most of the time ,and you will be surprised at this, the servers do not know if it's one or the other. Restaurant menus do not say wild or farmed Salmon, they usually only say Salmon. If you value the health of yourself and your family I would suggest that it should be you asking the questions not the people that are trying to take the money out of your wallet, Cause they do not care.

Charles, IMO we are all under the illusion that the world is in a war against terrorism as the battle for the 21st century... but I think in the not to distant future the consensus will be that the real battle of the 21st century will be the middle class against the banksters (for personal gain acting as neutral bankers) based in the City of London that are trying to enslave the world through their finance.

I think the current financial situation of free money distortions of capitalism is their creation, and that people are now aware of what has been going on (savings and investment tax from monetary inflation for bankster bubble bailouts)thanks to the internet we have this awareness, so therefor, it is only a matter of time until the banksters are confronted directly for their crimes by society at large.

I think the risk of open confrontation with the banksters is a huge risk, because they create things like the great-depression, the civil war, the world wars, and even the war on terror, to say nothing of things like the patriot act induced by the anthrax attacks on Capital Hill, or the elimination of figures like JFK, RFK, US Defense Secretay Forrestal, JFK Jr., and Senator Wellstone for example when ever the banksters feel their destiny is threatened by the potential of the democratic society.

I think the fear of accountability drives the banksters further audacious crimes in a cycle of cover-up and misdirection that can not remain hidden much longer, and then once the truth is out in the open, then all bets are off....

I figure we need a Gorbachev like figure that can dismantle their bankster empire and I figure the only one that can do it with minimal disruptions to the world would be the British Monarch who gives banksters (that control the US Fed, Bank of England, and Pentagon) a sanctuary in the City of London financial district through its sovereign. Otherwise things will get ugly and eventually we risk losing the middle class based democracy we have had for generations and the future will look like South America with an elite class and the other 95% of people would be defacto slaves.
