The President of the Prince George Chamber of Commerce is excited about upcoming forums planned for both mayoralty and council candidates.

Myron Gordon says the record number of candidates will make for some interesting discussions at the Chamber events.  (For Opinion250's earlier story on the candidates, click here)

He says the five candidates in the race for mayor come from diverse backgrounds, "and that's going to make it very interesting to see what kind of comments come out of that one."  In addition, to incumbent Colin Kinsley, who is seeking his 4th term as mayor, Councillor Dan Rogers announced his intention to run for the city's top elected post just before the nomination deadline Friday.  Tyler Doerksen, Trent Derrick, and Nathan Paul Prince round out the list.  The Chamber's luncheon forum is set for Friday, November 4th in a location that has yet to be confirmed, but it will be open to the general public and it falls well in advance of the November 19th election.

Gordon admits the forum for councillors is cutting it a bit close -- set for Wednesday, November 16th in the Weldwood Room at UNBC from 5:30pm until 9:30pm.  Each participant will be given two minutes to say whatever they'd like and then they'll all be asked random questions from a preset list.  Gordon says if all 26 candidates show up there may not be time to get to questions from those in attendance, but he's hopeful.

He says the Chamber likes to host these pre-election gatherings to "find out what the councillors and potential mayoralty candidates are thinking and what they see for the future of business in Prince George."
