Rolling out the new name for the track stadium in Prince George

More than 300 people braved cold winds to attend Massey Stadium this afternoon, as the stadium was officially renamed Masich Place Stadium.

Through four standings ovations, speaker after speaker talked about the work that Tom Masich had devoted to track and field in the city.

To the delight of the crowd, Prince George Leisure Services recognized the work he and his family had done in this city by presenting Tom with a T-shirt which read "new manager, janitor, etc."

Kelly Sharpe and Brian Martinson of the Track and Field Club pointed out Tom’s 32 years of work on the club and his efforts to ensure that we had a new facility.

In his remarks, Masich thanked all of the people in the city for honoring him by renaming the facility in his name he said "I am so proud because this place is so close to my heart, I am so honored, I didn’t prepare a speech because I wouldn’t be able to read between the tears. "
