Ten Digit Phone Numbers Coming

By 250 News

Prince George, B.C. – Get ready for ten digit phone numbers.

The change to ten digit numbers will start on June 23rd, and everyone in the 250 area code will have to punch in the area code even if it isn’t a long distance call.  There will be an easing in period to allow people time to make the changes, but the new practice will be mandatory September 12th.

Telus says the move is necessary because of a shortage of numbers.  In fact, there may even be a new area code added in B.C.

Starting July 4th, customers in the 250, seeking a new phone number, may be given 778 as their area code.

The change will NOT impact the emergency 9-1-1 number, that will remain as it is.

The need for the additional numbers is a result of the number of cell phones and population growth in the Okanagan and on Vancouver Island.

Oh no...can I still put my dealer on speed dial?
I blame the potholes.
surprised OWL doesnt have a bitch about this...cant we blame this on Kinsley somehow
You guys just crack me up!!! :)
My guess OWL hasn't seen this article yet. Hold your breaths....
I guess Ben will have to rename this forum opinion250/778
Anyone want to speculate on wavoes and DPJ's identity??

Owl's likely one of the best posters on here. He's got an opinion, just like all of us, but most of his are backed up with fact and corresponding links.

More than what i've seen for either of you.
Ben will rename the forum "fight_etween_memers.com"
A: follow the rules people and post comments on the issue, not on each other.
B: For the record, while i dont always appreciate Owl proving me wrong, his/her post are informed at least and dont tend to be little swipes at people/issues (i know i just broke rule A, but thats thew last time , i swear)
C: I am pretty grouchy about having to type 10 digits for local calls. Wouldnt a new area code solve the problem?
I'm new to this routine, so you can all roast me if you want to. I just want to say two things:

1. This is a really important news media for anyone who resides in this area especially.

2. The in-house spats between those who comment do not impress anyone. If anything, they drive the readership away. I have already heard of people who think it is extremely childish.

If we can, and I'm sure all of us care, keep on topic, and away from the interpersonal, which anyone outside of that tends to consider boring, everyone will win.

Okay - your turn!!
Your right. It is VERY Childish. I guess I sometimes have a childs heart...
The spats are minor, but I do not agree with name calling!
These are just opinions, and everybody has one.
In some countries, they shoot you for having an opinion!
I think for the most part, the forum works very well and people like Ben and Elaine are to be commended for a job well done.
I also know our relected leaders actually read these posts, and that is a good thing!
Take that Gordon!
Hey,maybe we should have an Opinion 250 party in PG?
We could all go and roast a few post names,(and Ben)drink scotch, and try figure out who everyone is?
(Heidi is toast)
Oh ya...we could bitch a lot too!
I'm new to opinion250...and my first thought was that this is a great site for local news...then as i began to read...every comment that comes out of readers keyboards is negative about prince george.

Owl really stuck out...so i am going to encourage him/her to run for Mayor or city council.

Go OWL
Some people who post here have political affiliations, and thus try to direct or influence public opinion via their posts.

Read for content. Above the little spats lies a lot of information that you will not find anywhere else. Often, people who have intricate knowledge of the story at hand will post little tidbits or extra information that was not in any news story.

You just get a much better take on what's really happening.

Owl, for instance, may come across as negative but if you follow his posts for some time you will find he is trying to effect positive change. I come from the same corner.

Happy reading !.... and dialing ???
Does anyone on here still have a rotary dial? If so good luck in the future..
Actually,I still have rotary dial wall phone!
Just don't have the heart to get rid of even though it looks a bit dated when everything else has been re-done in the kitchen, but guess what?
It usually still works when the power goes off!
I understand that if you are using a cell and just calling someone within a 500 metre radius of where you are located, that you will not have to use 10 digit dialing .......
