Anyone else noticed that when the gas companies and economists say gas "could" get up to a certain rate,
IT GETS THERE....
It makes me wonder if they are planning all these increases well in advance.

How about Hydro, they push conserve, save money, and you conserve and they raise your rates.....that will teach us for cutting into their bottom line.
What a scam!
FUEL PRICES:
At the Hart Mr. G's (Petrocan) yesterday afternoon (Thursday):
Gas: 122.9
Diesel: 134.9
Does anyone know the exact location of the Horn River Basin that's been all over the news?
Does anyone know the exact location of the Horn River Basin that's been all over the news?
oops sorry I posted it twice!!
My gripe is with the City and how they've gone around painting bike lanes for cyclists, say they've implemented a cycle network for cyclists (this way they were able to get a nice juicy grant from the government which the cyclist will never see) and then they allow cars to park in these bike lanes and once again the cyclist is forced into the vehicle lanes. It's amazing, if you go onto the City website you can actually find the "Cycle Network Plan" that was implemented, which of course means just painting lines and designating cetain streets for cyclists. There are a lot more cyclists out in PG, winter and summer, since the gas prices have been going up and it sure would be nice to be supported and encouraged to do our part for a green and healthy lifestyle!
You might have noticed on the news that there is supposed to be a worldwide shortage of rice, and the price has risen. The large exporting rice producers, Thailand, Vietnam, Taiwan etc., are looking after their home market first, and have cut back on their rice exports. As well they should.

Why then, if they can do this with a commodity that they produce that is needed in their own country (to keep the price of rice there affordable), can this country not do the same when it comes to the supply of gasoline and other petroleum products? In which we are internally self-suffient. Why do WE not look after OUR OWN first?

Did not people first come to this country and develop what was here to have "life more abundantly"? Would the pioneer who came from Britain, Europe, or Asia have bothered coming here if he'd been told beforehand that he was going to have to pay the "world price" for the products he needed made from the resources that were here? Couldn't he have done that right where he was?

Why, for our own home market, filled with products made here from resources WE are said to "own", do we not institute a system which bases final price to the Consumer on the actual COSTS of production, plus a resonable profit for all concerned in the process? Not on what some speculator in New York, or London, or elsewhere tells us is the "world price"?

OPEC, free market, NAFTA.
ATV's are destroying the trails inside the city limits. They dig deep ruts into the trails making it very hard to walk and next to impossible to bike. Atv's are not allowed to operate inside city limits. Hello city bylaw officers time to earn your money. There are a lot more walkers and bike riders than atv's on these trails so a few are destroying infrastructure for the majority. Take your atv's out of town.
-Fuel $1.30 per liter
-Loud aftermarket exhaust $300.00
-Snowmobile or Atv $8000.00
-Digging up trails and watching walkers/hikers and bikers cry.. Priceless!!
When I move into the left lane (for instance when going up the Hart Highway)I do so intentionally, because within the next hundred meters I plan to move left once more to enter into a left turn lane to exit the traffic.

I must execute this move from the right hand lane early enough, because if I wait too long NOBODY (!) will let me into the left lane later as any left turn signaling will be totally ignored.

To all those morons who immediately start to viciously tailgate in an attempt to force me to get over to the right lane again: Get real, simmer down, grow up, stop acting stupidly! Is this indeed the civilized society it always claims to be?

And, of course, there are traffic laws to obey for the safety of all on the road!

ditto on the bike lane comment. not much point creating a bike lane if theres cars parked in it.
Did you know we have the Forest and Resource expo here June 5-7?

My question is why is out gov't sponsoring their own Tradeshow in Calgary that same week and inviting BC businesses to it when those businesses should be at the PG one?

Does the gov't not care about our expo?

http://www.empr.gov.bc.ca/Subwebs/oilandgas/documents/2008_Tradeshow.pdf
Why can oil companies raise their prices at will and the average voter is subject to rollbacks if they get more than 3%? I think it's time our MLA,s provincial and federal stood up to the plate!
re: atv's, dirk bikers, etc. in city limits

The city by-law officers just need to park at the end of Domano on any given day and start dishing out tickets hand over fist. The City could make enough money to fill the potholes in this city a few times over.
Funny, never ever seen a by-law officer there or a cop for that matter. Complaining seems to fall on deaf ears.
sorry, that's dirt bikers :o)
When a car parks in a bike lane they know what they are doing. When atv run people off the trails they know what they are doing. If everone was respectful everone could co-habitate. I don't think the bylaw officers leave the office they are just there to read rules, not enforce them. They don't seem to be directed to do otherwise.
A very good question by "micheal" in regards to wage roll backs.
Unfortunately, there hasn't been very much of an increase in wages lately, but given the increases in housing,food,fuel,etc.etc.,it is not going to pretty when some of these contracts do start to run out!
Also,it is almost time for the oil companies to start posting their earnings and they are going to be HUGE!
If it wasn't so sick,it would be funny!

I almost ran into a snowmobile about 6 weeks ago on First Avenue at Moore's Meadow. He was about to cross the street to his house. I got out of the car to get his name and let him know it was illegal. He was not too happy with that.

I called bylaws and they were not happy to hear that. Until I told them that it was a specific incident, especially one that could have ended in an accident, they were not even interested in talking about it.

I took several days and I had to call them back. Spoke to a bylaws officer who was not sure whether there was a city bylaw against it. By that time the tracks oin the snow had diminished quite a bit.

I called the RCMP and the same story. They did go and warn the fellow, but that is all.

I had to call them a couple of days later to find out what happened. I was not a happy camper.

I had a witness who was driving behind me and was willing to testify. I took pictures of the tracks in the snow and the scratched marks of the skiis as he went on the pavement and drove up the street, stopped and gave me the finger. Then he continued driving right up the middle of a street.

The witness and I were talking for a while and he had come back aroudn Moran Park, went along First and then into his house.

No one cares about these things. The actions of both the City employees and the RCMP did not impress me, to put it mildly.
Nobody's been killed yet owl! thats why.
How come we can talk about the guy who has been alleged to have killed his kids in Merritt but on the Globe & Mail website it ain't open fer debate? I thought when something is before the courts the media cannot opine but just report facts until the trial is over. Or is Opinion 250 exempt? Well?
In reference to breaking laws or by-laws, just remember, it is only against the law if you get caught. Besides, your view of what is legal is just a perception according to what was foisted on you when you were growing up. If you were taught from day one that the colour of red was green, no one could ever convince you otherwise later in life. If they did, you would still have doubts about that. And subsequently this is why we have brainwashed suicide bombers. It is all about what you are being told and by whom and for how long. A law is anything you think it is.
With food prices on the rise, why not eliminate marketing boards so we can buy some pigs, milk producing moo cows, egg producing fowl, fruit trees and bushes, and maybe some other stuff without buying a million dollar quota from someone else? Marketing boards should be looked at more closely now. Doncha think?
I can understand snowmobiles on city streets, but what's the big deal about people dirtbiking off the end of Domano. I remember growing up that it was the kids that had something to do with their spare time that weren't breaking into cars or spray painting in alleys.
Hey Diplomat. I couldn't agree with you more about driving up the Hart and dealing with idiots who tailgate. Chill out folks. If you're in such a bloody hurry, then leave earlier and don't be so dammmmmmm lazzzzzzy.
Maybe the Bylaw Enforce, RCMP, should go to the Scales on the Hart on Sundays, You do not even have to chase the Fools. They park their trucks unload their ATVs And run around with their ATVs on City property, Max fine $5000 dollars, One Sunday...Hell We could pave all the streets in PG with the fines. RCMP, Bylaw Officers GET OF YOU LAZY ASSES.
Oldtimer, the Horn River Basin is in the upper right hand corner of BC (North East) bordering Alberta, NWT and the Yukon as well as encompassing the norhern part of Fort Nelson area. The site has the potential to produce enormous amounts of gas. Nexen and Encana have big stakes there and the profits may be huge.Looking to invest??
OOPS, I see there is an article reiterating these facts. Must learn to read before posting. I must not reiterate, I must not reiterate, I must not reiterate...
(cleaning out my ears) Did I just hear Don criticize law enforcement ?
(must be dreaming)
"Why do WE not look after OUR OWN first? "
(in relation to keeping our oil and gas reserves)

Mexico nationalized it's oil supply, meaning that the government runs it all from well to pump. Their fuel is much cheaper.

This action resulted in sanctions being taken against Mexico by the USA, wherever they could. This is what sparked Bush's rant about Mexicans taking american jobs, etc. and the subsequent immigrant worker's strike, among other things. Bush is choked that he can't get Bubba's rigs in there and take it all. Maybe they will try horizontal drilling to get it from the north side of the border ?
I SUPPOSE EVERYONE KNOWS ABOUT BILL 30 TO GIVE THE FOREST COMPANIES THE CONTROL OVER FOREST ACCESS ROADS,SEEMS WE WILL HAVE TO BUY A LICENCE AND A $170,000 BOND TO PROSPECT, HUNT, FISH , HIKE ON THESE ROADS. LOOKS LIKE THE CAMPBELL GOVERNMENT IS DONE WITH BEING A GOVERNMENT AND IS NOW ON A FEUDAL DICTATORSHIP PATH - MORE CRAP FROM THE STUPID (LACKING IN COMMON SENSE) SOUTHERN POLITICOS,WE NEED A MORE EFFICIENT GUILOUTINE TO DEAL WITH THESE DUMMYS,BULLETS ARE TOO EXPENSIVE TO BE WASTED, BESIDES THEIR BODIES COULD BE USED FOR FERTILIZER THE ONLY GOOD THING THEY WILL EVER DO.
re: atv's, dirk bikers, etc. in city limits

The problem is really bad in the North Nechako Road and Foothills area too. These guys (not kids) park their trucks and unload their ATVs and dirt bikes in full view of anyone driving along Foothills. I've seen the police drive right by, watch them unload and do nothing about it. The noise from the dirt bikes in particular ruins the quality of life in our neighbourhood. We almost dread the arrival of warm weather because it heralds the beginning of dirt bike season. I've called bylaw and they said that they can't do anything about it. They can't catch them and if they do anything to deactivate the trails and that causes someone to get hurt, the city would be liable. I've talked to the RCMP and it's basically the same answer "we can't catch them". Their recommendation is to deactivate the trails. You can see where I'm going here. When it comes time to sell our home we'll have to plan it very carefully around dirtbike season because noone in their right mind would buy after hearing that incredible racket!
Global warming will go down as the biggest scam the govt and banks ever pulled to build oil and gas reserves military intent.
I think the real problem is that those kids on dirtbikes and ATVs shouldn't be riding them anywhere at all but should be hanging around. Maybe downtown, try some different drugs maybe, sell some different drugs.Break and enter some homes maybe, rob some people, get hooked on meth. But , for Gods sake quit ruining their lives ATVing.
re: atv's, dirk bikers, etc. in city limits

WOW, are you kidding me, bitching about people riding dirtbikes, and ATV's, at the scales and foothills??? Come on, in the spirit of Earth Day, go and enjoy the earth, riding all damn day on it!! Its there for anyone to enjoy the great outdoors any way we choose, and I choose riding my 4 wheeler down foothills on Saturday to the scales!!SEE YOU ALL THERE!!

Are those seriously the only choices? Ruin people's enjoyment of their own property or become drug addicts? There's no in-between that could keep everyone happy?
If you want to go atving, then do it outside of City limits instead of right out back of people's yards. And I find it absolutely laughable that you mention
"in the spirit of Earth Day". Are you friggin' kidding me? Could there be anything less earth friendly than a bunch a yahoos tearing up city trails, terrifying wildlife, leaving trash everywhere and spewing carbon into the air.
Seriously, are you kidding me? It is illegal to drive an unlicensed vehicle on city roads, parks, trails, etc. And to say that some kid who isn't able to ride an atv or dirtbike is going to use or sell drugs, break into cars and spraypaint everything in sight is one of the stupidest remarks I have read in this forum. Whatever happened to having a good game of street hockey, playing some hoops at the school or throwing a football around? Give me a break!!!
"Mexico nationalized it's oil supply, meaning that the government runs it all from well to pump."

That happened in 1938. Mexico was blacklisted for 50 years after that by the USA.

The Mexicans smartly managed to exclude their energy reserves from NAFTA. They simply refused to sign on unless they were.

The new upcoming NAU - North American Union of Canada, USA, Mexico - is yet another attempt by the US corporations (government) to get their hands on the Mexican oil profits.

Maybe they will, maybe they won't.

"Whatever happened to having a good game of street hockey, playing some hoops at the school or throwing a football around? Give me a break!!!

Nothing happened to it. Quadding and dirbiking by far is alot more fun. If your complaining about ATV's your in the wrong part of the province. People who bitch just to hear themselves bitch..
ALL WE ARE SAYING IS GIVE PEACE A CHANCE
HArbinger and others: You CAN buy pork, chicken, beef, veggies and everything else (including eggs but not milk) from local farmers. You might have to look for it though. One can also ask local retailers to carry local food. As for getting it cheap, well food is already underpriced. You are going to findit hard to get people to compete with factory farms and mexican produce. On the other hand you will:"
Support local people
Get closer to your food source
Get better quality food
help maintain a healthy farm industry in the area.
These are good things.
It always seems funny to me that people will spend so much on stuff they dont need and so little (money and time) on the food they eat.
"Nothing happened to it. Quadding and dirbiking by far is alot more fun. If your complaining about ATV's your in the wrong part of the province. People who bitch just to hear themselves bitch.."

You're, not your.... you+are in the wrong part of the province, as in the sentence, if you graduated from Grade 9 English YOU'RE in the wrong part of the province.
The people that ride thier atv's and dirt bikes say they enjoy the outdoors. And that's fine.Just take all the garbage and your dog crap home with you. And respect the earth and other people.

Enjoy the earth
Well I am not surprised about some of the responses about atv's inside city limits. Its all about me me me. Thats real mature considerations. Use a little effort and take that rig out of town. Digging up and destroying trails now that is a great example for kids. Lets turn them all into knuckle draggers. I have nothing against all these rigs, but they have their place and its NOT INSIDE CITY LIMITS!
NorthernPike -Hukt On Foniks Wurked Fer Me!
Try to separate a man and his toys, and you are in for a fight .....

Take me, I have my gun target practice in my backyard .... upsets the neighbours all to hell ... but why should I give a chit ..... I have my rights, you know, eh ...

;-)
Outside city limits??? I bet there are some pretty nice walking trails outside the city limits. Who are you to say that your pasttime Walking) is more important than others (ATVing) It is much easier to get jsut yourself and your walking shoes out of our city limits than it is for a kid to get his ATV out of city limits. A better idea would for you walkers to stay the hell off our ATV trails. Street hockey, now theres an idea. I'm sure no one would complain about a dozen kids with sticks playing on the street, when they can't ride a dirtbike in the woods. I'm sure these people whining about kids enjoying the outdoors like they have for years, wouldn't whine when these kids are playing hockey in the streets. I bet you walkers could do some research and find some lovely trails outside the city limits and leave the ATVers alone
Upon looking forward to receiving my carbon tax cheque soon I kinda was looking forward to buying a tank of gas fer my car, a few lottery tickets and a visit to Timmies to do my part to save our environment. Today I got a notice that my drivers license is up for renewal in June. It's gonna cost $75 bucks. Well, there goes the gas I was gonna buy and that just leaves lottery tickets and Tim's. I sure hope nothing else comes up to take the rest of that dough away from me. Methinks there is a conspiracy with me, my money and my governments.
JEETER, it is attitudes like yours that gives all ATVrs a bad rap. You think because you have a quad you are superior and you can ride anywhere you want. Why don't you ride it right outside you back door instead of ruining the piece and quite of the people who happen to live inside the city but near an area where people with quads ride (breaking the law). It is not only illegal but rude. But then of course, it is clear you don't care about others.
ATV's and bikes on city streets? There must be more pressing things that enforcement can be dealing with!

Is anybody else sick of the Brenda Martin case in the Mexican jail? Media is spinning it well......
I have a hard time believing that ATVs beyond the end of Domano Blvd. are hard on anyones' ears, and I don't even have an ATV or a dirt bike. The odd snowmobile on local walking trails actually makes trudging through the snow with the pup a little easier.

...and heck, who said kids (and adults!) had to stop playing street hockey in favour of motorsports? Next we'll be complaining about them anyway, damn kids.

A responsible ATV rider on his way to trails down by the scales never hurt anything besides a few feelings.
Don't worry. It is only against the law if you get caught.
Hey red, I do ride right off my property and get to trails from my home. Tell me red, does traffic going by your house offend you too? Do you think people should only drive their vehicles outside of city limits too? I'll try not to be annoying and rude by driving down your street red. Free Brenda Martin.
"Is anybody else sick of the Brenda Martin case in the Mexican jail?"

I am!!!!! I say if you have the dollars to go to Mexico and spend them there instead of in Canada, you deserve to see all sides of Mexico, not just the beaches.

;-)
I ride my electric golf cart on the better maintained trails. I love the thing. It is so quiet, no one hears it as it comes up behind people walking .... scares the hell out of them when I honk the horn....

;-)
I decided I'm not buying food anymore if the stores will not give me a paper bag to put it in....

I might have to fire up the dirt bike and go for an evening ride now....
Maybe PG could attract a new pulp mill that makes paper grocery bags out of pine beetle trees?
IMO the area from the scales to North Nechako cut banks is a 'I don't care what other people think about my riding area'. They shouldn't have encroached in on the trails to begin with... the trails have been that way for 40+ years. Its the people that moved along there and don't like outdoor recreation vehicles problem... not mine. If they make it my problem then they won't like the way I solve it.

If they have a nice house and want to sell it because they made a mistake where they bought, then let me know and I'll find dozens of potential buyers who would love to buy it to have better access to the trails. I would be one of them if I could find a house that backed on to those trails. I've been looking for years.
Want the potholes fixed let the mayor and his entourage stay home and quit making trips to china and abroad. What’s the winter Olympics going to cost for our elected city officials to wine and dine themselves at our expense? I am sick of hearing of some city officials eating and getting drunk on my dime. Last election every waitress in every pub wore a Vote for Colin Kinsley button. What does that tell you?
jeeter and eagleone. The it sounds like it's all about you. How would you solve it, oooww. That sounds like Billy-Bob and the redneck pick-up gang.

Practice Random Acts of Kindness
Things that are all about ME ...

1. I want a quiet neighbourhood

2. I want to be able to ride ATVs on the trails behind my house.

3. I want to be close to a bus station.

4. I don't want buses idling in front of my house.

5. I want to be close to a golf course.

6. I don't want golf balls smashing though my backyard.

7. I want to have a wood burning fireplace and furnace.

8. I want to be able to go out on my patio and not have creosote smoke in the air when I sun myself.

9. I want the potholes fixed.

10. I don't want to pay any more tax.

11. I want to play my music on my deck as loud as I want.

12. I want to be able to hear the birds in my backyard.

And so on and so on ...... it IS all about ME!!!

What is not about me is any action which considers others right to not be impacted by the actions of others.

Seems simple to me, but obviously there are many posters on here who have missed a key part of their upbringing from their parents .... how to be human and respect one's fellow humans. great material for hermits ..... but not for living in a social setting.
I can hardly wait until the carbon tax is delivered to dead people and prisoner alike this summer. Bunch of ninnies.
Cremations should get hit with a carbon tax .....

then there is the PM ......

Robichal:
Do it out of town where it is legal and not detromental to other people's lives. If you can afford these "toys" and load em' up in your big ass pick up truck then surely you can drive 10 or 15 minutes and get the hell out of town.
Why is it these machines belong out of town? Detrimental to peoples lives??!? Big ass pick-ups??!!Are we talking about ATVs still? A little cheese with your whine Robichal?
Driving 15 min. out of town might take effort for a lot of folks. I drive 2 hrs to run my sled.
Fish, if we took your philosophy... then all it would take is for people to shoulder some of the problem that they perceive on their own shoulders as part of doing a good neighbors part to live in harmony with others. After all the areas in question have been traditional territory for dirt bikes for decades now.

The four wheelers however are a new thing and I agree that they're harmful to some of the dirt bike trails, although they don't make noise... catch-22.

I think the same to an extent can be said of the dirt bikers who don't need to deliberately make noise and scare people when their near homes. Everyone just needs to chill out and relax and don't get so worked up about people having fun.
Seamutt 15 minutes would be fine if there were any good places to ride. Some of the best riding anywhere is behind the scales in those valleys through to Nechako Ridge the garbage dump ect that is full of big hills, look out points, a nice sand base, and the whole works.

There are places with potential but they have no developed trails and if the trails were built it would not be long until homes were built nearby, or a golf course, or the environmentalists just outlawed that place as well.

The snowmobile club is no good for dirt bikes, maybe 4-wheelers, but not dirt bikes with its gravel and swamps. No amount of money would make it a good place to ride for dirt bikes.

The two best places out of town that I can see for future dedicated off road areas could be North Nechako past the cut banks out to Isle Pierre crossing (good base, good terrain, good look -outs, no fences, no farms, no homes)... or another good place could be out the Fort George Canyon area for the same reasons.

If the trails and scenery were good then there are tens of thousands of high paying adventure tourists that travel all over North America to ride in new places with developed trails and no local harassment. The kind of area set aside would need to be substantial to make it viable or else everyone would get bored quick and it would fail. Any park of this sort would also have to have trails dedicated to dirt bikes and mountain bikes, and others for both dirt bikes and 4-wheelers shared, because both ride totally different kinds of terrain and bikes make groves that are half the fun of riding that 4-wheelers just destroy, so the best way to avoid the 4-wheelers would be to have some good tight bush trails for the bikes. IMO Fort George Canyon park is useless for anything else other than an off road park, but its trails are limited because no one rides there. North Nechako is close to being a place where people could add in a few more trails and it would start to become viable right away and very close to town.

That said nothing beats going for an evening ride right from a persons back yard. Thats why people move to PG in the first place. Over and out....
Ben, you forgot to close the barn doors at midnight!
