Will we soon have a federal election?

I have long thought that it might come as early as June for a number of reasons.

Every day that passes gives the Liberals more time to lick their wounds, gird up their loins. sharpen their swords and offer an alternative to Harper and the Tories. This is being helped along by scandals in the Tory camp which, while nothing compared to those which plagued the last Liberal government, provide the Liberals the ability to say to voters “there’s your hypocritical Tories for you, the pots calling the Kettles black!”

The more time passes, the better chance the Liberals have of revitalizing their traditional support in Ontario and Quebec. The Harper government has brutally smacked the Ontario government around and even in central thinking Ontario voters tend to side with provincial governments against slings and arrows from Ottawa. As far as Quebec is concerned it can only get better with time.

British Columbia is always tough to get a handle on and has been Tory territory for some time. The fact is that BC doesn’t matter that much to a Stephen Harper who knows that while winning Quebec and Ontario often pisses off British Columbians, it’s worth the price.

I wet the finger, put it into the political wind and sense an election close at hand. On the other hand, when I’m predicting elections I’d be just as successful checking out a roosters entrails so when the question is asked, I will just say,  “well, er, who knows about these things but I think it might."

"Every day that passes gives the Liberals more time to lick their wounds, gird up their loins, sharpen their swords"....etc.
Sorry Rafe, but as long as Stephan Dion is the Liberal leader...Harper ain't one damn bit worried!
He won't win a majority, but the Liberals will not gain any ground...and I think they already know that!
If they thought otherwise, they would have forced an election by now.
This time around, the tattered Liberals have really pulled a boner and they will be a long time rebuilding what is left of the dynasty.
And the longer Dion is around, the harder that will be!
Nice guy..but nice guy's usually finish last!
Sooner... or later... does it really matter? It ends up costing tax payers in the end anyways. I say bring it on. We could all use something else to complain about.
I thought we had a set election date? Is it politically feasible to break with that for a trivial matter?

I don't see the big division of policy in the political debate that would be cause enough to do away with the fixed election date....

I also don't see anything I would want to vote for, so until that happens....
No, it sure doesn't Eagleone. Waste of time and money. The outcome will not be any different when all is said and done.

And the opposition parties are not offering any serious alternatives. So, what's the point? Chester
I agree with both you guy's.
I have always voted, both provincially, federally, and local elections as well, but probably for one of the few times in my life,I don't know WHO the hell to vote for anymore!
They all disgust me equally.
The opposition parties are dropping the ball, and the governments in power, provincially and federally, are really not doing it for me!
And the party leaders are an embarrassment!
Is it me,or are our politics and political parties here in Canada really that far out of touch with the voters?
Is their ridiculous behavior in the house actually worse than it use to be,or have I just been watching it too long?
Andyfreeze:"I don't know WHO the hell to vote for anymore! They all disgust me equally."

Well, what do you know, I am not the only one!

I am just as tired of having to go and register a vote just to keep the greater evil out!

Voting for the lesser evil is interpreted as a vote of approval, when in fact it is more of a protest vote than one of actual support!

There is no party at any level which I can enthusiastically endorse.

Just when one warms up a bit they pull off another stupid stunt which makes one shake one's head in utter disbelief, like the thing with reneging on the Income Trust laws.

Or partying with GWB.
