Local Ft St John landmark ordered to be  demolished
Fort St John, B.C.  - A major eye sore in Fort St. John may soon be a thing of the past.
Fort St. John City Council has declared the former Fort Hotel property a nuisance, and has given the owners 30 days to demolish the building or come up with a good reason why it shouldn't be demolished.
The building sits at the corner of 100th and 100th in Fort St. John - the main intersection in town.
If the owners do not act on the order after 60 days, the City will take care of the demolition.
The property was purchased in 2005 by a numbered company based in the lower mainland. The new owners developed an elaborate plan to renovate the historical building into the "Hotel St. John", however, fire, safety and permit issues caused delays and finally, a halt to construction.
Since the fall of 2006, the building has been at a standstill. M. Milligan & Associates, the engineering firm the owners engaged to provide development plans has withdrawn from the project because they haven't been paid any of the $45,975.10 owed to them by the building owners.

The main intersection, eh?????

And this in a booming city?????? Where is the community pride?????
The same place that Prince Georges community pride is...Have you drive the streets lately and looked at the drunks, the garbage, the burned out buildings, crack houses, demolished cars, property damage etc etc etc.
The other three sides of that intersection are doing very well. One of the placeholders on the other side is the city's library and the equivalent of a performance art center. ( Oh what an idea, combine the two and as people are waiting in the nice atrium before performances they can check out the library. There is also a real decent snack shop there as well.
Hey maybe PG council will catch a idea from Fort St. John and tear down George street.
The community pride is apparently in the Lower Mainland with the owners!
WOW, This used to be a very nice hotel at one time. How time has passed and taken its toll.
Sad...
