Prince George, B.C. - Gas jumped to 129.9 cents a litre in Prince George last night.

For the benefit of those who still like to figure their gas by gallons that equates to

$5.91 cents a gallon.

This latest increase was 7 cents a litre or 31 cents a gallon in one hit.

This latest increase follows the lead of gas prices going over 130 a litre in many

towns and cities across Canada.

This is not their last increase as Finance Minister Taylor introduced a bill yesterday

in the Legislature that will see gas taxes rise by 2.4 cents a litre on July 1st,a further

7.25 cents by 2012.

You also can look forward to paying 2.8 cent tax on both natural gas and home heating oils.

where have you been, I have been paying 1.29 since sunday.
I paid that price in Cache Creek last Friday
You may have scruffy...but there were a lot who were still selling at 122.9 until last night.
If there was only a legal way to fight this..
no people...boycotting,unfortunatly doesn't work in Canada. That only hurts the station you are boycotting, not the gas companies.
Government leaders don't seem to care...nice big raise and they are getting the government coffers are getting its share of this with the taxes.

And now the price of everything else is going to start going up as well...

We are in a transitional phase as far as the use of fossil fuels is concerned. And we are somewhat lagging in our acceptance of the inevitable.

It will be not more than a couple of years until the first plug-in electric vehicles arrive in dealers' showrooms.

In the UK petrol is close to ten dollars a gallon. The US will see 4 dollars a gallon in the summer and a doubling of that is anticipated already.

The oil companies are still raking in record profits, taking in all they can get while the going is good.

As always, all the increases are passed on to the consumers who are basically defenseless.

Our old lifestyles are undergoing a powerful make-over as the world is approaching the 7 billion total population milestone.

Scary.

Which gas stations get their fuel from our local Husky refinery? Most of them do I believe. Start by boycotting Husky stations

Time for another world war
lostfaith,

Perhaps -- who knows? -- you were "only joking".

Oh how delightfully funny of you. NOT.

What a godawful terrible bloody thing to say.

.
...and look at the profits being announced!
I believe only PART of these prices are in fact justified...but not all of it.
There is always a little greed thrown in for good measure.
The old hit 'em when they are down syndrome!
That's it, I'm going to burn firewood, for cheap heat at the house. Gonna buy a moped to get around town.
I thought we were past the 7 billion mark, I thought it was shy of 8 billion.
You must get politically correct He Speaks. It's not firewood anymore, It's got a fancy new name called bio fuel. So far no carbon tax on it yet but I'm sure the politicos will be working on a way to accomplish that. I guess the MLAs will soon have to vote themselves another 28% wage increase so they can afford to drive their vehicles around the Lower Rainland.
3 CENTS CHEAPER!! Racetrac Gas on the Hart Posts on the sign The same price As everyone alse, but at the pump it's 3 cents cheaper. I've be gasing up there for years. And i'm not sure if any other stations do this
I have read that 1/4 of the price of a barrel of oil is due to speculation. There is no supply problem right now, in fact the US is having a problem finding places to store refined gas.
Now that all the pumps are prepay, you need to keep an eye on your gas tank. The punks are now going around and siphoning gas from your tank at night. My dad got hit for 50 dollars worth 2 nights ago. And yes they can get around the screens on your tank. Best solution buy a locking gas cap. Cheapest place I found Lord co.
I hate to nit-pick the price for a gallon should be $4.92 (1 gallon = 3.785412 l) and an increase of $0.26 a gallon.

Fish, actually in Alberta here we had 3.5 cents off at the pumps for a couple of years now. I don't know why they do it, I guess they try to make you feel a little better before they take your hard earned money money.
If you care to nit-pick you need to rember where in the world you are living. Canada has used the imperial method of measurement probably forever....that is.... where the imperial gallon measures 4.55 liters. This equates to $5.91045 per imperial gallon.

A smaller US gallon has long been 3.78 liters.

It's all good Mary, take a pill, have a whiskey, relax.
What's god got to do with anything anyhow?
I suppose I was wrong suggesting we need another world war.
Seeing that half the world is already at war, I should have said a total world war.
;>)
Come on BC Mary...jeez..the guy was kidding!
That happens on here, all part of the fun!
...and yet we pay even more than that for a litre of water that we can get for free...
LOL, ya what he said.
Funny thing with posting stuff on the internet, when people read what you have written, they must imagine what the tone is of your writing. Am I yelling or laughing when I write this stuff. Only the shadow knows.
If the price of fuel keeps going up I will be trying to get mine for free also.
Siphoning gas has been going on for much longer than the requirement to pre-pay for gasoline in British Columbia. An increase in siphoning events is more likely resulting from an increase in gas prices and not due to the legislation.
Siphoning could be called pre-suck gasinstead of pre-pay gas. You have to suck before you get it.

It was Pat Carney that said she was positive that the oil companies would treat us fairly. On the 5:00pm news they said petro-canada posted an 82% profit in the last quarter. HELLO
Free enterprise...you could start selling siphoning hoses!..
It makes no sense to compare to imperial gallons since no one of any importance really uses that measure for gasoline. They use litres.

The USA uses gallons. They use US gallons. So, if you want to compare our prices to the price of US gasoline, which I assume is the objective, either change US gallons to litres or litres to US gallons. While you are at it, consider the exchange rate which will add roughly another 2% to the price of Canuck gasoline.
I'm pretty sure the purpose of putting gas prices into an imperial gallon perspective was for the old-timers to compare prices to what they paid back in the day ;)

That makes sense to me!

6.8 billion ..... that is 1 billion more than 10 years ago .....

the projection is for 1 billion more 10 years from now .....

So, as far as energy goes .... we have an increase of population of 1.5% net per year and likely an increase in people using more energy of at least double that..... while the amount of traditional fossil fuel being produced on an annual basis is close to peaking accoding to some and has already peaked according to others.

http://www.eia.doe.gov/pub/oil_gas/petroleum/feature_articles/2004/worldoilsupply/oilsupply04.html

then there is this scenario ...

http://dieoff.org/page224.htm

Ah ... you mean in the days when a new Toyota Corolla was $2,200, gas was probably about $0.35/gal and a 1,200 sf split level suburban house was $25,000 and an annual income for a young professional was in the $7,500 range?

I remember those days quite well. Put a 0 on the end of all those figures and you have a good approximation of the year 2008.

http://www.thepeoplehistory.com/70s-homes.html

I also remember that we got free TV and radio reception in those days and no charges for cell phones or other idiotic inventions.

Once you bought a typewriter, you had it for life .... now you have to get a computer every three years or so with new progams .......

I paid $1,000 for a higher qulity TV about 15 years ago. For a similar quality TV these days I have to pay about 50% more than that.

Gasoline is actually comparatively cheaper these days.

Why are people always bitchin' about gasoline and not about all those other things we all spend money on?
And just think! millions of Chinese people are saving up to buy a car.
Why is this news still? Who cares? we'll still continue to buy gas. Heck, we'll buy gas until there is no more left to buy. People are not going to stop driving. People are not going to stop buying gas guzzling SUV's.
People will continue until there is nothing left and then we'll really see what the movie Road Warrior was all about. Just wait.
Forget about the price of gas. It will always go up as long as the supply is running low and we are still using it at alarming rates.

Quit complaining about this. It will not go down because of whining people like us. We probably won't even be able to keep the price down this way.

Instead... pressure the government for electric cars. The charge quickly from the same outlet as your charge your cell phone. They are available for about $12000 and you can buy them in B.C.

Here is the solution. Don't complain... instead... make a change!!
I expect the politicians to give themselves a raise, the oil company CEO's will give themselves a nice hefty bonus and the rest of us peons will get shafted thru it all.
