Prince George, B.C. – The Prince George Airport enters a new era this afternoon.
This afternoon, the first daily international flight will arrive, and take off for Seattle.
The addition of Horizon Air to the Prince George Airport is huge says Tod Doherty, Manager of Aviation Services “It opens up international opportunities for Prince George. Business and tourism opportunities can now be directly accessed from the U.S. Market.
The flight coming in to Prince George will not only be carrying some Horizon Air dignitaries, it will also bring to the region some people looking to take advantage of the outdoors. “This flight will be bringing in some hunting and fishing enthusiasts who will be heading to some of the lodges, guide and outfitter camps.”
Horizon Air flight 2400 arrives at YXS at 3:05 this afternoon, and heads back to Seattle at 3:45.
Opinion 250 is sending reporter Bill Smith on the inaugural flight to Seattle.   Watch for his reports.

No passport - no travel.
Horizon, although not part of Oneworld, is affiliated with, among others, British Airways. So now there is a legitimate alternative for getting to Europe from PG on one ticket without going via Air Canada. Westjet has been rumoured to join Oneworld for years now but cant seem to get its act together. I can now use my BA points to get right from PG to London, before they could only get me as far as Vancouver.
Get a passport YamaDooPolCat. I don't have one either (it expired) but plan to get one soon "just in case".
No need for Passport, high fuel cost will make it to costly to fly, no need for more runways at 2 Bucks a liter.

Nope. I'm not leaving.
Let me humour you for a spell. How is this an international flight? Are we not a state of the US. Our policies and trade are governed by them, not our House Of Uncommons. I would suggest that this is merely a temporary charter flight to facilitate inspection of futher mineral investments. Is PG considered an exotic travel destination for southerners. They must like the high crime rate and particulate laden air. :)
Oops I forgot the Beetle Kill Bus Tours.
The Beetle Kill ought to remind them of Colorado ......

If some of you won $10 million in the lotto I'm sure you would complain that the money was too heavy.
Pisspulper, what a sad life you must live, getting up every morning and trying to find something to complain about. How sad that your life has reduced itself to that point.
Try for a moment to understand the importance of trying to establish international travel out of Prince George, if it is not above you, or do you think if you complain long enough the rest of the world will step forward to help you.
You're right Trudy, the crap on this site is friggin' pathetic.
If I had $10 million dollars I could hire someone to carry it for me. For a fee, of course. Money talks. Mine says good bye.
One persons "crap" is another persons entertainment or for that matter, escape. Take a poll. Sad life? Isn't that subject to interpretation? By whom and at what level? Jeez!! I shoulda been a lawyer.
All vinegar aside, PG is a destination for southerners as part of their jobs or for leisure (mostly hunting).
Expansion of the airport and airport services always seems to attract a lot of cynics. I think what sets some people off about negativity on this site is how consistantly snide the tone has become. WHile i see no need for a poll (we exercise the tyranny of the majority quite enough these days) I do think that the comment forums on 250 are at their best when people post thoughtful (and considerate) comments or opinions for debate.
For those that think there are people on this site who always are negative, they are correct. At the last count we had just over 2100 people registered to comment on stories.
Of that number about 10 feel that they must slag everything or anyone. We at Opinion250 have allowed this kind of conduct in the interest of free speech. A good deal of what is posted by these people is not Free Speech,just dribble, and in the coming week we will have another serious look at those people who only are interested in seeing their name appear on the site, with nothing to offer.
The short answer is that, if you are not going to clean up your act, we will for you
Good on you Ben;
I have many times started to comment on a particular story in a contrasting manner to most of the always negative comments, but usually decide not to, simply because these people are always so certain that they are right they will never consider another opinion. Because of this I read this site far less often than I used to and often don't bother to read the user comments. Negative attitudes are infectious and anybody that plans to accomplish anything noteworthy in life would do well to avoid the bad attitudes of the handful of sad-sacks that have hijacked this comments on this site.
I think the word you were searching for Ben was drivel not dribble. ( Is this negative?)

What fishing and hunting are they talking about? As far as I know hunting season is closed and the lakes still have ice on them.\
Maybe they are doing groundwork for later in the year.

I agree that their is a lot of negative comments on this site, however one has to be sure that you do not confuse negativism with an opposing point of view; If we all make wonderful comments about everthing that happens then all we have is a self aggrandizing **love in** which of course over time would bore every one to death.
I too am fed up with all the negativity. Prince george may not be the prettiest place in BC and not it's not perfect but it does have some of the finest people I haveever met. It's a community that for the most part sticks together. I am proud to live here.
All the negativite Nelly's should move if they hate it so much.
I think it's great to have another option. It's a definite step forward.

WARNING - Possible negative conotation ahead!

I look forward to the scintillating coverage of Bill Smith's 1 hour flight on a commuter jet (& possible subsequent cavity search by customs & immigration officers).
Has anyone considered that direct flights to Seattle, and points South to Mexico etc: will probably kill off West Jets direct flights to Puerto Vallarta.

If this happens we should thank West Jet for taking the risk, without hanging around City Hall with hat in hand,looking for gaurantee`s and hand outs.

The City should keep its NOSE and taxpayers money out of the business of private enterprise.

Westjet = Direct non-stop
Horizon = Connections

Westjet for the win.
Westjet = Direct non-stop = limited choice, limited market

Horizon= Connections = maximum choice, unlimited market .....

Sort of like "we are in the wood business" = limited choice, limited options ....

"we are in the human resource business" = unlimited choice, unlimited options .....

The smart money typically follows flexibility, not limited opportunities.

Luckily we have some in the community who understand that.

Now, if we can only get peopl to understand one more thing. Running a City these days is like running a business. Cities compete with one another on a much fiercer basis than countries. Time we got into that competition and understand what it takes to compete. I know one of the things it takes is investment as well as taking risks.

As with buisnesses, those who know how the game is played will excell. Those who don't will have some hard lessons to learn.
And yes, if you do not have a business manager/owner who can be positive and a non-quitter in adversity and a critical thinker to manage risks and recognize opportunities when they occur, you might as well close shop.
I am by no means saying I agree with what Pisspulper said earlier or anyone that is constantly negative on this site. However, just because someone is constantly negative, doesn't mean their comments don't make any sense or that they don't have anything to offer as Ben stated earlier as well. All I'm saying is that some of these negative comments are very truthful and accurate. Negative as they may be.

I always try to look at the positive side of things but I can tell you, it's getting harder and harder every day to do so when we've got a bunch of morons running our town who like to spend 14 grand on art for a bridge! Come on.

Just my opinion. Sorry to vent.
