Prince George- Jim Steele of Environment Canada describes April weather in his monthly report as ,"gruesome".
It was a cool month with Spring having a difficult time to establish itself. The first 10 days were near normal temperature wise with a burst of mild air arriving for the 12th, the first sign of Spring with an afternoon reading into the mid teens.
Cooler air arrived soon after and remained locked in for almost 2 weeks. Several temperature records were established in this period with the 19th abnormally cold seeing a daytime high remaining several degrees below the freezing mark.
In the end, it was the coolest April since 1982. On the precipitation side of things, it turned out to be a drier than normal month with only 5 days seeing measurable precipitation.
Snowfall in lower elevations was actually below normal even with the 4 cm falling on the last day of the month. Rainfall was off and on with the last couple days of the month seeing the greatest amounts. .
Temperatures
- Average daily high of 6.8 was below the normal of 11.4 degrees C.
- Average daily low of -2.6 was below the normal of -1.1 degrees C.
- Mean temperature of 2.1 was below the normal 5.2 degrees C.
- Warmest Day on the 26th with a maximum temperature of 17.5 degrees
- Coldest day on the 19th with an overnight minimum of -9.9 degrees
Precipitation
- Total precipitation of 18.2 mm was below the normal of 32.2 mm.
- Total Snowfall of 5.6 cm was below the normal of 6.3 cm
