Prince George, B.C.-   Horizon Airline flight 2400 arrived at the Prince George Airport on time and to the  welcome of water canons, dignitaries , ribbon cutting, and gift packages.

"This is huge for Prince George" said Mayor Colin Kinsley as he welcomed the  passengers to  his City. "This is the first daily international flight  for Prince George, and it will open up the region to  increased tourism and business opportunities,  and  give  people in this region a direct flight  to the  U.S. with connections to  the world".

The arrival of Horizon Air has already meant more jobs at the airport, as  new  staff have been hired to  look after passengers at the "Horizon" check in desk, and  three new  Customs agents have been added.

The flight  was full heading back to Seattle.  Those  on board  included TimMcEwan, the head of Initiatives Prince George and Councilor Sherry Sethen (at right,  Jenica Castle and Sabrina Mowbray check  Councillor Sherry Sethen's flight arrangements and her passport)who will be Acting Mayor  on the trip as Mayor Kinsley was not able to  take this flight.  She is also  acting as an ambassador for the Chamber of Commerce.

Opinion 250's Bill Smith is on the flight, and will file a report  later.

What a great thing for P.G.
Congrats PG Airport!
Now the challenge will be to maintain the schedules they are committed to. My experiences were not favourable with this carrier when on two separate occasions, Horizon cancelled their flights and caused us to make alternative flying arrangements. Chester
It would be interesting to know how many so called dignataries were on the flight back, and how many actual passengers going to Seattle or further.

Prince George does not have the population to support 80 passenger per day 7 days per week even with support from the Northern Interior.

Dont forget you also have direct flights out of Vancouver. It appears we might kill off some of the Vancouver business for the benefit of Seattle.

This will be an interesting excercise to watch.
I for one think this should be viewed as a positive, not a negative. I'm assuming they did their research and know more about this then the general public.
If they were so sure that it would work why do they need a $400,000.00 gaurantee cash payment from the City??? Seems to me they did some research that indicated that there was some risk involved, and they want the City to pick up some of the loses if it doesnt fly. (No pun intended)
It's a great thing for PG...any airline company stands to face a risk, however this is a good thing and is a path for more to come,,,,

A perfect picture. Hizzoner and an airplane. Gee! Both aren't joined at the hip! The only thing missing is hizzoner holding his passport in one hand and our tax dollars in the other hand.
Reminds me of that R.E.M song "Shiny happy people holding hands"

-Has anyone on here flown in a Dash-8 like in the vid. Scary as hell..
I must disagree with northman about the Q400; I love flying that type of plane, great personal service. I think Horizons' seat 76 people and my last 6 trips in and out of Seattle on flights before I could fly from PG were very comfy. The complimentary wine/beer was a nice touch one does not see in many places anymore.
Northman... it is probably a safe bet that flying on a Horizon Air Q400 is not the only thing in life that frightens you. I have over 12,000 hours flying time as an airline pilot, 5,000 of which are in the DeHavilland Dash 8 series, including the Q400. For each person like you who exhibits irrational fears from any aircraft with props, there is an equal number of 'white knucklers' who don't even like flying on jets. I think this is probably more about a phobia of yours, rather than a justified fear. If you don't like prop planes, travel via Vancouver or take the bus, but don't try to convince the majority of us who like flying to be afraid of our shadows. The Canadian company, Bombardier makes a great aircraft, and at 27 million dollars a piece, there is a lot of safety built into them. From what I've heard, Horizon has one of the best reputations in the industry, and I for one am looking forward to trying out their service.

I have ridden many miles in that type of plane, and think they are a fine aircraft.
Never scared for even a second on them.

Only scary flight of my life was actually on a 747 to Hawaii years ago......Thought I was going to meet God, or possibly Satan that day.
