I have no problem with re-surfacing parts of highway 97. This is a very busy highway. But let's get serious here. I drive highway 97 regularly and I don't see a dying need to repair any section of it as much as certain areas of town which recieve much more traffic. Let's face it, our roads are the worst they've ever been and unless we do something about it right now, the problem is going to get a whole lot worse.
And they will use techniques for the southern part of the province where it as not as cold, no frost heaving etc. Two yeras down the road it will look like Ospika between 17th and 22nd. Rip it up and do it right the first time, saves money in the long run. Taking the lowest bidder always ends up in cutting corners so the contractor will make a bigger profit. There should be a 5 yr warranty on the work they do.
Driving back from Fraser Lake on Saturday once again reminded me of just how bad our roads really are!
What a bloody mess, patches on the patches, and VERY rough!
If they ever do get around to fixing Highway 16 West,it is going to cost a fortune!
It needs a total rebuilding from Rupert to PG.
I recall back in the day when Social Credit was in power, the standing joke was that you could always tell when it was getting close to election time, by the road constuction happening!
But at least our roads were much better maintained back then!
