If in fact the driver was drunk this type of death caused by a drunk driver is supposed to result in a jail term of at least 7 years - mandatory - with no time off for any reason or any excuse.

Mr. Dick Harris stated that the 7 years MUST be served upon conviction.

I shall be watching the news to see if this will in fact be followed or if once again a special kind of *compassionate* exemption will be applied at the discretion of a judge.
7 years, nobody spends 7 years for anything with our justice system.
Lets start now, and make a difference. Seven years in the slammer.
give him the choice of seven years or he can jump off the bridge....just a thought.
7 years should be a given!
No exceptions,so I too will be watching the outcome.
However,I do have my doubts!
Guess it will depend on which judge he gets!!
7 years is not long enough, he should spend the rest of his life in jail, the guy he killed had his life ended so why shouldn't he?
That's the problem with Canadians, we are a bunch of bleeding hearts that let criminals get away with Murder and we just turn a blind eye to it. But God forbid you get caught with your seat belt off and speeding.
Make this guy pay as much as high a penalty as the man he killed. An eye for an eye I say.
There are way too many drunk drivers on our streets and highways, make an example of him.
Lets stop using examples and just set a preseden [hope I spelled it correctly] No more minimiums or hiring some high price mouth piece for a slap on wrist.Lets start seeing leadership the tax paying, lawabiding public I being one are tried of spending money on fluff.I want to see my money being spent usefully less on policing and more on licence plate making. One guard can watch more low lifes with good technoledgey than one cop who can't do anything because he has to spend all his time going around in circles with these same people.Trust me I know what its like to get the knock on the door and that is the job you don't see the police having to deal with.It is that part that the police never get any acknowledgement for.We need to set up a island that breaks these people of there habits ie drinking, drugs, car thieft. People will say its not fair and the families of these people will suffer.I don't think so they will be happy because the cycle will be broken.
They'll probably send him to a sweat lodge and native healing circle.
