Organized labour is pushing for some action on the teachers dispute and tomorrow, City of Prince George operations may be affected  by a withdrawal of services by members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE)

B.C. Federation of Labour President Jim Sinclair tells Opinion250 News "something has to be done to put pressure on this (provincial) government.  We know CUPE is withdrawing services in your region tomorrow, and after that, we will take a look around and see which region will go next."

Sinclair spoke with Opinion 250 News, as 35 thousand people were packing up from a massive rally in Victoria.

As much as possible, the City of Prince George will attempt to provide regular service to the public, however, the following services will be affected:

• The Prince George Aquatic Centre,Four Seasons Pool, Kin Centre I, II, III, the Coliseum and the Elksentre will be closed until CUPE members return to work.

• Until further notice, Garbage Collection Services will not be provided. Residents may take residential garbage to the Quinn Street Transfer Station, Vanway Transfer Station or the Foothills Landfill. These facilities are open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday to Saturday, and 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday. The Transfer Stations will accept residential garbage free of charge until 7:00 p.m. Saturday, October 22nd, 2005. The regular collection schedule will resume once the period of service disruption is over.

• The City of Prince George, to the degree possible, will honour all contractual obligations, including events at the CN Centre, Kin Centres, Coliseum and Civic Centre.

• City Hall hours of operation will be 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday to Friday. While not all services will be available, the City of Prince George will provide the highest level of service possible under the circumstances.

The P.G. District Labour Council is holding a rally this afternoon at 5:00 in front of MLA Pat Bell's office at 5th and Central.
