Prince George, B.C. -Private investigator Ray Michalko who has been on the case of the Highway of Tears murders for the past two years, says he has consulted a Toronto Lawyer, after RCMP Staff Sergeant Bruce Hulan wrote him a letter telling him he could be charged with Obstruction of justice if he doesn’t tread carefully.

"When you’re trying to do something to help everyone you don’t expect this kind of treatment" said Michalko, who is a retired RCMP officer.

"The RCMP can say they don’t want me interfering with an ongoing investigation, any time any year, it never ends."

"I may be an old RCMP officer" Michalko said, "but in the force when you’re gone you’re gone. Who you were and who you are, are two different things in their eyes."

RCMP Sergeant Pierre Lemaitre says the police wrote the letter after a story ran that suggested an arrest in the case was imminent or he was expecting some major development. That story was not factual.

Gotta remember, they don't like it when people step on their toes.
No kidding Lost, god forbid that something might actually get done!
the word from the taxpayers and the families in this tragic case is to politicos and the r.c.m.p.message reads GOYA (GET OFF YOUR ASS) and get something done, some old fashioned gum shoe work would help, thats all the private dick is doing, you should appreciate the help not get your nose stuck up in the air threating to stop him, a little humility will go a long way here.or maybe the rcmp is shooting for a closed shop union no one else is allowed to solve a crime but them, bad attitude no wonder your batting average is so low.
This guy has none of the private info the RCMP have so what's the big deal?
Leave the guy alone...this case can use all the help it can get, and it's not like the RCMP have come up with anything that they are letting anyone actually know about!
Or have they, and they are not telling?
Maybe they will give him a dose of tazer. The RCMP have recently tazered an 82 year old man at the hospital in Kamloops. Apparently he had a knife and would'nt drop it when ordered. So blast him with a tazer. Cops can't even take down a senior in the normal way. Check this one out Ben.
Careful Ray, The boys in blue might turn their tasers loose on you. But then again the tasers don't kill. Just ask the RCMP.
The one about the 82 year old guy was just on the news.
Bizarre!
They just don't make them like they used to do they?
It's no wonder they can't "take down" a person in the normal way. Has anyone else noticed that most of the newer RCMP staff look about 16 years old and a lot of them are so heavy they couldn't run after a criminal anyway. But maybe that's my age and lack of political correctness speaking. Someone told me that it only takes 12 weeks to become an officer, is that true?
Woo bigdog, zinger! But have you had a look at all that gear they pack around? plus their bulletproof vests? All that time spent writing reports is not time spent keeping fit! If that is true about the 82 yr. old, I am disgusted! What kind of feeble ass person, never mind a 'highly' trained peace officer, could not deke out an old man with a knife? How many cops were there? Probably more than one, but even if there was one, hesheit must have been terrified! Textbook case, disarm the 'assailant' from a distance, then there is no risk that he will disarm you, and use your own hand cuffs to restrain you. Well you would deserve to have that happen if you could not summon the intestinal fortitude to deal with a situation as non dangerous (as this sounds) Hell, just wait him out, he will need to take a nap before long anyway.
The ever opinionated metalman.
Maybe he is a suspect?!?!
They could have asked the old man if he wanted to trade his knife fer one of their leftover yummy doughnuts. I sure would have traded. Yum Yum
I dont have a view on tasering an 82 year old man other than he should have dropped the knife. The comment that the RCMP should be 'deking' a guy out of his knife is pretty darn silly. I guess they do it on TV but i would not want to have the job of 'deking' people who might cut or kill me for my trouble. There does seem to be a double standard going on there. Next time there is a guy with a knife, perhaps the RCMP should phone one of the rambos on 250 to come and wrestle him.
Also the new RCMP are not 16, dont actually look 16 and have passed more rigourous training than the old RCMP did. Mayeb if they are looking younger it is because we are getting older? That is my experience anyway.
Armchair policemen are a dime a dozen. Still it seems hard to recruit the real thing. I wonder why.
