Prince George, B.C. – The Air Quality Implementation Committee is getting set to start an anti-idling campaign in Prince George.
This campaign comes off the heels of the woodstove exchange program. The target for that program was to have 70 old woodstoves exchanged for new, more efficient burners. The incentive for the trade- in was a rebate coupon. Forty five coupons were handed out, and 40 rebates issued, the remaining coupon holders have until the end of August to send in their coupon for the rebate. The target for the program was 70.
As for the anti-idling program, Committee Chair, Mellissa Winfield-Lesk says there will be surveys and scientific data collection during the campaign which is expected to kick off next week.
You can also expect to see an advertising campaign urging you to turn off your vehicle rather than leave it idle. There will be visits to a couple of “idling hot spots” says Winfield-Lesk, which means line ups to drive thru outlets will be targeted. She says they hope to gather some scientific data from those hotspots, then revisit the same areas later to see if the campaign had any impact.
There will also be some information gathering to see if existing idle free zones are being effective
Businesses will also encouraged to make their properties “idle free zones”.
