Prince George, B.C.- Delegates to the Northern Municipal Association have endorsed 7 different resolutions dealing with the carbon tax that is to be imposed by the Province.
The resolutions refer to the carbon tax as discriminatory as northerners use of fossil fuels is not discretionary it is a necessity.
The Mayor of Dawson Creek, Calvin Kruk, called for the 7 resolutions to be deferred until more data was available. He said the material in the resolutions is anecdotal, and there needed to be scientific data to support the arguments that northerners will be unfairly taxed because of the need to heat homes and businesses.
He stood alone on that idea as one Quesnel Councilor stepped forward to say the item is time sensitive and his research indicates that for his city, the tax will add another $25,000 a year, he added that for West Fraser, the carbon tax will add $1.4 million dollars per year to the operations of their mill in Quesnel, a further $25,000 to the School District in Quesnel and $80,000 to School District 57.
Prince George Councilor Brian Skakun said it is important to send a strong message to the government, that the “one size fits all approach without consultation doesn’t fit for the North.”
Prince George Mayor Colin Kinsley says the Province will never approve a tax exemption for the north, but he hopes there will be some suggestions for mitigation “For Prince George it will mean an extra $70 thousand dollars to the annual fuel bill, and another $35 thousand to heat our buildings. If there was a way to get that $110 thousand dollars back through some sort of rebate perhaps to go towards improving transit, that would be a more positive way.”

It is one thing to tax the fuel we burn in our vehicles, but the fuel we use to heat our homes and keep our families warm should be untouchable!
Just shows how little the Campbell clan really care or know about people in the northern part of the province!
Somebody get a rope!
