Everyone has been affected by cancer in one way or another. Every few months I receive a request to support a friend who is participating in one type of fundraiser or another for cancer. And I understand how important and emotional an issue this is. However, I do question the enormous cost of administration of the Cancer Society? How much of all of this money raised actually is available for research? Seems to me that the treatments recommended haven't changed much in many years. Early detection is a great idea, but try to get some tests done in a timely fashion to see if in fact you do have cancer. Months go by waiting while the cancer has more time to progress. To be considered a charity the maximum amount of the budget that can be set aside to administration and fund raising costs is 20%. Often many organizations are under that percentage. The Cancer Society's Annual report would speak to this.

I have to question why when so much funds are raised is there no advancement with regards to finding a cure. It seems to me that if any of the findings were actually released there would be a BIG cut in the revenues to the drug companies as well as the medical professions. There has been so much money raised over the years and we all know that the advancements in technology is there that there is information there that is not being released and used. I'm of the opinion that I'm tired of donating to this cause simply because I can't imagine that for all the funds donated and raised that there is not more advancements made for treatment, cure and prevention. As far as I'm concerned, it is one of the most wealthy projects around. Why would they ever find a cure? It would be cutting off their nose to spite their face. Sad but true!

Do you have any idea how large the conspiracy would have to be to cover up a cure for cancer? As far as no advancements in treatment being made, c'mon folks, do some research. Do you honestly think that the treatments and the survival rates in 2008 are the same as they were in 1990, 1980 or 1970?

There are hundreds of different types of cancer, most of them with their own unique issues and problems. Combine that with patients that each have their own unique issues and problems and a constantly changing environment and it's not hard to figure out why a cure has been so elusive.

George Carlin and Chris Rock can answer the question as to why there aren't many big advancements in the cure for cancer:
Cuz the money is in the treatment, not the cure!

They are both marketing their own wares, comedy that piques the interest. Surely you don`t think they have done any research past the end of their nose.
