Federal Government and Province Set To Sell Out Fraser River Fishing
By Ben Meisner
This week Bill 34 comes before the Federal House with hardly a peep from the politicians that they are about to take away the ability for all British Columbia residents to fish the Fraser River and turn it over to a few select bands along the river.
The recent signing of the treaty with the Tsawwassen band takes away the right of not only non whites but other natives in the province to fish the Fraser. When the dust settles from this bill if passed by the House, does the Parliament of Canada think that other bands will not seek similar rights and in so doing, wipe out the right for everyone else to fish the Fraser salmon?
The Parliament of Canada knows full well that the Supreme Court of Canada has always rejected under section 35 a commercial fishery on the Fraser. But not withstanding what the courts have repeatedly said, the federal government along with the Liberal government of BC have ruled against that very principal.
Has the average Canadian been told what the 700 pages of bill 34 contain? It is highly unlikely that the members of parliament, both government and opposition have read the bill. I challenge the Liberal government members of BC to inform the public as to whether they also have read the bill, because, I am sure they haven’t.
Those two facts should be sufficient to axe the bill, but with the secrecy surrounding the bill it is unlikely that anyone will step forward to say let’s stop this nonsense.
I’m Meisner and that’s one man’s opinion.

I will be sending off some emails to our elected representaives this morning to try and find out more information.
But what could be the logic behind this bill itself!
It never ceases to amaze me in regards to what those we elect are capable of when we are not looking!
