Prince George City Council has approved three by-laws which clear the way for the borrowing of more than $27 million dollars.

The first bylaw covers the community heating distribution systems.  The facility will be located at the old City Works Yard, would burn waste wood primarily, and have natural gas as a secondary form of fuel.  The heat generated would be piped through the downtown.

Councillor Skakun asked how all these projects impact our debt.  Kathleen Soltis advised those figures aren't available, and while the bylaw would allow the City to borrow the money, but doesn't necessarily mean the money will be borrowed .

Whats more important, funding for a new bridge or this idiotic idea. Helloooo downtown business owners, who do you think is going to pick up the tab in upgrading your building. So that you can tap into this heat distribution system. Not the city "you are".
How on earth could they vote on this without knowing how the this will affect our debt ratio !
Oh great the city gets to burn tons of waste in the downtown core and yet my neighbors get excited when I light the occasional fire.
A co-gen plant maybe, but to simply heat our streets... I'm not convinced this is a good idea.

What building have they got pre signed for service and what will they pay as an operating fee? Does it even break even or do we also subsidize it operation? How does this impact the air quality? Where will the hog pile be located? Sounds like it involves ripping up existing streets to lay pipe? Does Teresan get credit for this as well?
We do not need anymore hairbrained ideas from this City Council on how to waste taxpayers money. This project will only create long term job security for city employees. (Planning/Engineering etc) at the cost of taxpayers. We need to get those people who are always coming up with new ideas on how to spend our money out of City Politics. We need someone who will put some control on spending. This Mayor and most of his Council are out of control. Remember guys this is taxpayers money not yours. Its time to stop. Who will stand up and run on a platform of less spending and tax reduction.
