Quesnel BC. -   A meeting will be held at the office of Bob Simpson MLA in Quesnel today at 9.30 am. To throw support behind a Canadian Citizen of Iraqi descent who has been unable to have his wife's family  and his own parents come to Quesnel to visit.

Dr Aziz says that neither he or his wife, also a trained doctor has been offered an explanation for the refusal by the Canadian Government.

Dr Aziz is Quesnel’s only internist and Bob Simpson says the community and area would be hard hit to see him leave.

At present, Dr. Aziz works 24/7, covering full call and treats patients from Quesnel and Williams Lake.  His absence would adversely affect Quesnel’s ability to operate the community’s only ICU.  Even with this schedule, Dr. Aziz has expressed a desire and commitment to stay in Quesnel for 5 – 7 years.

Cariboo North MLA Bob Simpson has asked the Federal NDP Immigration Critic to have a discussion with Dr. Aziz, and then raise the issue with the Immigration Minister directly.

"Quesnel cannot afford to lose another physician, much less a specialist.   Dr. Aziz, a distinguished member of the community, has the support of many including the Chief of Staff, the Hospital Administrator at G.R. Baker Hospital, Nurses, patients and colleagues.  Many of whom are willing to speak publicly in support of Dr. Aziz and his family."

In addition to Dr. Aziz and his wife, a group of concerned citizens, colleagues and supporters will join MLA Bob Simpson at the Cariboo North Constituency Office in Quesnel.

MP Dick Harris says his staff has been working very hard on the matter. "My staff has been trying to resolve the issue and I can say this, they have done some very good work in this regard over time. "

"Beyond that" he added "we cannot comment on the specifics , because of the privacy act. "

It's not like the docs parents are Clifford Olson or something, let the docs parents into Canada. Letting this Iraqi couple into Quesnel for a couple weeks won't hurt anything even if they were conficted terrorists what could they do in Quesnel? I don't see the harm, besides Canada now has a new professional doctor who's education was paid for by the parents, so it is a little late for Canada to get all righteous now. I don't see how Canada can not let them visit.

Besides Bob Simpson is on the case, Heehee!

It's a post 9/11 world
It would be a big loss for this area if Dr. Aziz were to leave Quesnel.
I will never be able to understand how the government operates.
It's time to get rid of some bureaucrats who are on a power trip.
This is so stupid I can't find words for it.
