spring has finally got here now you can get busy for next winter- green tree leaves should be out by the end of may then you have june, july and august ,they are falling off again, subject to a new carbon tax - been thinking we should have a tax on them victorians for dumping all their carbon sewage into the ocean credited to us northerner's account- should just about balance the books.kinda like an equalization scheme crap for crap, when i was thirteen my horse and i worked on a ranch in the chilcoot for thirty dollars each, as was the case in them days when a serious matter came up a fella would yalk it over with his horse- there was this fine old model "T" that i just had to have to court the gals around in and the deal was struck with red my horse if i could use his thirty dollars to get this fine automobile i would set him free-he lived in the finest pasture for the rest of his life and the story of the car, gals &me is another story. the moral is when you make a deal with yor partner gordy campbell ya keeps it otherwise your reputation starts to look like the windy end of the horse.
I have seen the weather forecast for the long weekend and am so excited!! warm weather, sunshine, who could ask for anything more. So to all the readers out there, I wish you a happy, safe ,and sunny long weekend.. we deserve it after the winter we have had. Enjoy yourself. I know I will.
Northern taxpayer; you can't expect a politician to keep their word, they are mostly all crooks of one stripe or another

Hello to all the fellow gardeners out there. Be careful about planting everything outside this weekend. Hot, dry, windy weather can mean death to newly transplanted bedding plants unless they are well watered or protected. Since we haven't had any really hot, sunny weather chances are the plants aren't ready for that yet. Traditionally around these parts, we don't plant until May 24th. Personally, I am waiting until after the full moon on Monday to plant my stuff. The weather looks to be cooler with the odd shower next week .... perfect planting weather. Have a great weekend everyone and get out and enjoy the sunshine. This gardengirl is going golfing. :)
Bill 42 – Just Shut Up BC

The BC government’s new election rules are an unprecedented attack on freedom of speech in our province. They want to restrict the ability of any organization to speak out on behalf of seniors, students, children, and patients, resource communities, working families, the vulnerable or the environment. Bill 42 will impose extreme limits on advertising and communications on any public issue in BC from December this year until after the May 2009 election.

Gordon Campbell’s new election rules censor, silence and intimidate anyone concerned about his government’s policies.

Bill 42 is unconstitutional, undemocratic and unprecedented in Canada and the BC Liberals are determined to ram this bill through without debate so the people of BC won’t be able to see what they are trying to do.

Bond.. We need a micheal moore type person to make a documentry in bc just to put a bug in campbells ass.
Sunscreen. Bug dope. Life jackets. Keep your campfire small, and extinguish it with water if you must leave it unattended. No drinking and driving. No speeding either, you don't want to give the fuzz the pleasure of writing up a nice little fine for you.

The Northern Medical Program Class of 2012 was selected and my boyfriend was accepted! He's very excited because he wants to go to eventually work on the north!
I would like to compliment the person who wrote the following on April 7th, 2008 -

"Only in Prince George would we consider sticking a biomass plant in the immediate vicinity of what could be one of the most scenic and beautiful parkland spaces in the entire northern half of the Province. What vision."

I have printed diplomat's response to that but it seems there is not an archival system in place where I can retrieve April 7th's comments.

There appears to be a ground swell of people who are interested in parkland and green areas by the rivers. I evidence the Millar Addition group who are advocates for downtown, the rivers, green belts and enhancement of our environment.
Just a note to all levels of government in Canada.
Due to the high cost of everything I need to continue with the quality of life that I enjoy.

I will only be paying 50% of the taxes you have been squeezing out of me over the years. I have decided that the politicians that have been and are currently in power in Canada can get together and cover the other 50% with the excesses of their pension plans and wage increases I pay for.
I have been thinking about the nursing shortages. Why can they not bring back the candy-stripers? A fully trained nurse doesn't need to be changing bed pans or helping with meals.
Lots of interesting posts!
Victoria DOES dump it's sewage in the ocean and so does Prince Rupert.
There are probably some others as well.
Just shows what a bunch of hippocrates our politicians really are when this is tolerated in this day and age!
Rupert doesn't have the dough to really do much about it,but Victoria sure as hell does!
They don't like to talk about it, so I always make sure I inform anyone going on trip to this beautiful city, to stay out of the water!
They are always shocked!
whineo...I was told that the union/s do not want candy-strippers around.
They worked for free, and some believe they were taking jobs away from people in the industry.
The candy-strippers did a great job!
Gardengirl. I will contact Jos at art Knapps and tell him there is a gardener on 250 that is smarter then he is. He is badly in need of some good pointers.

Now all Bs aside I want to know where the frigen robins are. Had about 50 in our neighbourhood early in April when there was a lot of snow around. They stayed for ahwile and ate all my apples and have since disapeared. Saw one up in the Ginter meadow a couple of days back but thats all. We used to hear them warble every spring for hours but this year nothing.Gardengirl if you dont get run over by a golf cart Can you help?
Full moon is tuesday. The expected frost didn't happen
last night. All our weather is reported by southerners--
so lets go with the northern spirit and plant when we have time and the chances are 50/50.
Living in the north makes us resilient .The fact is that they can make all the rules they want down south but we do what we want because they have no government presence here. We live here because of that freedom, but when they charge us excess for gas and natural gas it leaves us just angry. It is hard to find a way to be independent from southern ignorance. Where is our northern savior. We need a political voice to make the North separte. Forget the reformed elctorial system, it never includes us. How about a new voice. Youth of the north step up to the plate. This old gal will vote for you.
Hey Sunshine - good for your boyfriend for making the medical program of 2012. What a great boon that has been for the North. That's a good news story of the day.
Andy, they are not strippers! ;)
It is more of the elitist mentality, RPN vs. LPN, RCMP vs. auxiliary, City firefighter vs. volunteer. I think that the candystripers performed a valuable and needed service.
metalman.
Bridge there is an active bird watcher's group in town. They may know where the Robin's area; ncenbird@bcgroup.net
Rabbitt to Mouse.... Rabbitt to Mouse... come in Mouse....

Full moon is actually @ 18:11 May 19... and appears as the "smallest" full moon in 2008.

Means both of us should be able to hide from Owl... :-)

BTW ... we can expect two significant frosts before June 1st... however, it will be okay to plant spuds this Monday 19th... peas and beans are okay to plant on Saturday 17th.

Goodtimes... :-)

mountain biking FYI:

The Pidherny bike trail are finally snow free and the bike trails are in good shape.

The stunts on the lower section of Ditch Pig have been cut down and destroyed (most likely related to the golf course that will be build on the lower section of the bike trail system)

Yes indeed. a nice warm weekend ahead.
I will all a great weekend....
Mice and rabbits .... yummyyyy!!!!

;-)
"Only in Prince George would we consider sticking a biomass plant in the immediate vicinity of what could be one of the most scenic and beautiful parkland spaces in the entire northern half of the Province. What vision."

That was written by NMG ..

The thread is here:
http://www.opinion250.com/blog/view/8947/1/groups+step+forward+to+restore+cottonwood+island+park

I found it by putting the word "diplomat" and "april 07" into the search box on the top left hand of the opinion 250 page.
Thanks Owl. There have been some outstanding remarks on Opinion 250. It helps to know how to relocate them!
Dear Giterdun,
Not so long ago there were many of us chatting about the 'No Idle' idea going around. You stated in a very selfish manner that because it is your truck and your gas, you can do what you want with it, including keeping your vehicle running for as long as and as much as you want. And yes, you're right. However...IT IS NOT YOUR EARTH. WE ALL LIVE ON ONE EARTH AND IT IS IN NEED OF SOME FIXING!!!! SOMEONE HAS COME UP WITH A SIMPLE SOLUTION TO HELP THE EARTH, WHICH COINCIDENTIALLY WILL ALSO SAVE YOU SOME MONEY, AND YOU TAKE THE ARROGANT, SELFISH ENTITILIST POSITION WHERE YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE WHO MATTERS. YOU OBVIOUSLY HAVEN'T GOT KIDS OR FAMILY THAT YOU CARE ABOUT BECAUSE IF YOU DID, YOU WOULD BE MORE WORRIED ABOUT THE EARTH AND HOW YOU ARE LEAVING IT FOR EVERYONE ELSE.

Turning off your vehicle when possible and safe can only help reduce emmissions. I can see how people will do the opposite only in protest of the government, but we should be doing the opposite. We should be pushing the government to save the environment as they are our makers of change.

If you need inspiration to reduce your environmental impact watch the documentaries "An Inconvenient Truth" by Al Gore, and "The 11th Hour" by Leonardo DiCaprio. Also, the "Planet Earth" series will make you care about the whole world, not just yours.
Thanks
Nurses don't want candy stripers? They want to do more work? Nice spin put on this. Nurses were also blamed when orderlies were canned 'cause the government got 2 for one with an RN. Now we have RN's cleaning up messess and having to move patients who's average weights are 200 plus pounds. Nurses wanted to do this? Victoria would like you to think that nurses are to blame for the problems in hospitals and they're right to an extent - nurses don't want to work for this government! Understaffing is a result of cuts to both nursing positions and the education of nurses - a few years ago CNC had too many grads so the stopped the program, boy that's thinking ahead. Now we have hospitals full of LPN's and candy stripers 'cause after all those nurses (mostly women) only work for extra money, they don't really need the jobs - even with stats showing that women are the head of most households with children in Canada. This government has trashed the health care system and it is only going to get worse 'cause I don't know about you but I wouldn't work in a BC hospital.

My friend also got into to the medical program and will practice in the north!
I think he will actually stay here in PG A family member has a practice in the north.
where would all the candy stripers come from? They existed in a day when girls had limited job opportunities -- nursing being a desired job. Candy stripers were girls who wanted to become nurses. You cannot find enough nurses today because there are many other opportunities competing for those girls. There would be nobody to fill volunteer candy striper positions.
LightGreenGirl, before you accept "An Inconvenient Truth" as gospel, you should read "Unstoppable Global Warming: Every 1500 Years" by Dennis Avery and Fred Singer.
LightGreenGirl you can read this too...

The media is feeding us doom and gloom when it comes to the environment and its getting out of hand. People take this information and run with it without questioning its crediblity. There are two sides to every story it just depends on who gets the information out first. All this green bulls%$t is just the flavour of the day.
If I may chime in here with additional comments, assuming we are all intelligent, people here we do not necessarily believe anything the media attempts to force feed us, do we? Some of the reporters do not do their home work, just repeating what they themselves have been fed, and sometimes they put their own spin on things too. One thing that really gets my goat is (apparently) biased reporting. The mainstream media do this all the time, and accused persons are practically convicted of their charges by the tone of the story.
I try my best to be objective, but it would be so easy to just go along with the pap that is spewed from the lips of the mighty talking heads. Now hear this; I am not 'convicting' all reporters of this, just those few.
metalman.
One thing that really ticks me off about the media is how badly they sensationalize almost every little story they report on. They blow a lot of the facts in some stories way out of proportion. They keep reporting the same stories day after day after day and they report them just like they did the first time they reported it. You know, like it was really something new that we haven't heard yet.
The media is after high ratings and will report things whatever way they can to get high ratings.
Do you supposde all the people on social assistance look forward to long weekends? I don't think so.
Nor do the retired!
I second that motion, Hindsight.
lostfaith said, "One thing that really ticks me off about the media is how badly they sensationalize almost every little story they report on. "
The big problem with the MSM is the stories they don't cover. They are ignoring the BC Rail trial and the disclosure by the NDP of how the BC Liberals have handled the documents wanted for the trial.
Three cheers for the *lady* driving a blue Dodge Van who mercilessly tailgated a small car in the left hand lane going up the Hart Highway at around 4pm today. She then gave up, changed lanes and riding within inches behind a small SUV traveling at 70km/h in the right hand lane, obviously trying to coerce that vehicle into breaking the law by speeding up.

Both lanes were busy with vehicles.

Finally she drove off speeding and giving the outstretched middle finger salute! Perhaps on dope? Or crazy? Or both?

Wow! What a hero! Where is the police when they are really needed?

Opinionated - yay for your friend too! At least we know that 2 doctors in the class of 2012 will stay in the north! Does your friend want to do general practice or specialize.
Did everyone know there is free parking on University Way near the bridge close to the university? Yup free parking there.
Help yourself, no need to park in the actual university parking lot, cause you have to pay for parking in there. Have at her.
sunshine,
I think he will specialize. I think he'd be bored in general practice. He's a fine young man who I am sure will be a terrific doctor. So I guess your friend and mine will be classmates.Bravo to them.
Lostfaith - I don't really understand why everyone complains about the parking at UNBC. Its not that expensive. 25 cents gets you an hour at the sports centre or 1.5 hours in the uni parking lots. At UBC and other places they pay hundred dollars a month for parking. We have it pretty good here.
Here’s my bet reads of the week:

------------------

Pat’s been on a role lately with some good opinion pieces. In this one he takes aim at Churchill as a hypocrite which is long over due for an American of the right wing republican brand, as well as questions whether Britain really did win WW2 as she claims. I think he makes a great argument that the west actually lost WW2, although we are not all speaking German today so I think he is only half right.

To really blow your mind think about this story in conjunction with the above read and think of all that power and how ‘we the people’ really mean not much to the whims of those in control. Think of the power it would take to steal $55 Billion with out so much as a whimper from the people you stole it from so as to cover for the thieving casino style you have done to the very people whos money is used for the bailout. Think that this just happened yesterday…
