Flooded cofferdams won't pose  any delays in bridge construction ( photo opinion250 staff)

Prince George, B.C. – The flooding of the cofferdams on the Simon Fraser Twin bridge project won’t pose any delays to construction “We were expecting this” says Mark Smith, Vice President of SureSpan construction “We are way ahead of schedule so this won’t cause any delays.”

Smith says the work continues at the site, “There is still a ton of work to be done on pier one and pier two on opposite sides of the river, so work will go head on those piers during the flooding”

Cofferdams are built under water to displace water so a dry work environment can be created. “Once the water recedes we will pump out the cofferdams and carry on” says Smith.

They said that about Cottonwood Island too!
:-)
Better watch out for log jams on the temporary piers!

"We were expecting this”

I don't buy it.

Today they were removing the yellow access stairs. So why didn't they remove them on Friday if they needed to be moved? Or why did they remove them at all if they didn't need to be moved?

Either way, I don't think they were expecting it.

To see the yellow stairs I'm talking about, thepulse.ca has some pics - it's the third one:

Yes, maybe it won't cause problems or delays, but I don't think they expected them to flood over the weekend.
I agree bohemian. They are quoted as saying they are "way ahead of schedule" yet then add, "there is still tons of work to be done on pier one and pier two".
In my opinion, the only thing they may have been expecting was a "delay" due to some sort of high river levels at some point during construction, but not this early. Our govts throw all kinds of money at bandaid solutions...what is another few hundred thousand dollars tacked on to this project. They can spin it how they want. The bottom line is water levels will continue to rise until action is taken on river maintenance.

Sorry? Did I miss something? SureSpan had something to do with Cottonwood Island Park?
Well, this isn't the first bridge ever built by Surespan... and certainly not the first river they have had to work with.

There is a considerable difference between bridges and potholes... and being an expert at one does not make for an automatic expert at the other.

Of course, being an expert observer of one DOES make for being an expert observer of the other. :-)

Goodtimes !!
