Quesnel, B.C. – Prince George, is not alone when it comes to flooding. The City of Quesnel is also monitoring high water levels of the Fraser River, Quesnel River and Baker Creek due to recent rain falls and snow melting. The Fraser River was recorded earlier at 471.5m at Quesnel’s Edkins Street gauge. The City of Quesnel has issued evacuation alerts to residents in the Bartels Trailer Court. Mayor Nate Bello states “the evacuation alert is to ensure that people are prepared to take action should it become necessary.”
Previous actions by the City of Quesnel include:
· Closure of the entire Riverfront Trail on the east side of the Fraser River.
· Closure of the Johnston Loop, with traffic access available through the Davie Street railway crossing.
· Closure of the North Fraser Drive Loop on the west side, with traffic access available via the Elliott St. exit onto the Moffat Bridge.
· Infrastructure protection work on various sections along Baker Creek.
