Prince George, B.C. - School District 57 is facing a $4 million dollar budget shortfall.

The School District is anticipating revenue of $124.7 million, but expenses of $128.7 million. The short fall will be balanced by dipping into a surplus fund.

The School District says the numbers are preliminary as the final numbers won’t be known until there is a complete student head count in late September.

Here's three free tips:
1)take the shortfall out of the Duchess park budget.
2)cut the salaries of the top five poohbahs in SD 57
3)contract out more work
There you go.

Hmmmm? The above sounds like a bit of common sense it does. But I doubt it will sell.

metalman said, "contract out more work." That would cost more money. You would be hiring people that most likely don't know what they are to do and the firm they work for has to make a profit so it will cost taxpayers even more in taxes.
'...and the firm they work for has to make a profit so it will cost taxpayers even more in taxes.'

That one made me laugh out loud.
Laughs indeed. Contractors have to do the work for a stipulated sum, assuming the work is tendered, which it should be. If the contractor's employees take too long to finish the job, or if something goes wrong, or if the estimator messed up, the contractor gets paid the same, no matter if the company loses money on the job or not. S.D. employees are given a lot more latitude, they have full time, year round work, and they are not having to be concerned with every minute of time on a job, or if the wrong parts are ordered, or how many trips must be made to complete a job. In the case of owners' forces,
"it costs what it costs"

It's cheaper to bring in workers from other countries than to train our own kids.
Besides we have to save a few billion to cover security for 2010.
