Prince George, B.C. - Evacuation alerts remain in effect for Farrell Street residents as heavy rains and snow melt east of Prince George have raised flow levels in the Upper Fraser River basin.
Farrell Street residents were under evacuation orders last week after rapidly rising levels along the Fraser threatened to cover their road. The City of Prince George activated its Emergency Operations Centre and issued a declaration of a state of local emergency for several low-lying areas of the City. However, with cooler temperatures and reduced snow melting later in the week, the EOC decided not to renew the declaration, which expired today.
However, the River Forecast Centre in Victoria is predicting that due to warmer temperatures, heavy rain and increased melt upstream of the City, the Fraser will likely rise again over the weekend. It is possible that flood levels will be reached early next week.
