Prince George, B.C. - Operation Remembrance has identified 15 unmarked veterans’ graves in the Prince George Cemetery.

Working with Veteran's Affairs Last Post Fund, the Operation Remembrance Committee has received and installed military grave markers to commemorate these veterans.

"It took a long time," says Sandy Hewitson from the City of Prince George, "We walked the cemetery,  and it would be marker, marker, blank, marker.  So we  had to go back to the cemetery map to see who was buried in the unmarked spot,  then  send the person's name to  Veteran's Affairs to see if they were a veteran."

Hewitson says it took Veterans Affairs  quite a while to confirm information as  many of the records  are not yet on computer so staff had to shuffle through  files to  confirm the information.

"We have managed to locate family members of three of the  veterans, so they  will be taking part in the special ceremony on the 14th "

During that ceremony, the  new markers will  be unveiled and cadets will stand guard at each of the graves as a show of respect for the WWI and WWII Veterans.

The ceremony will take place at 11:00 a.m. on the 14th at the Old Veterans' Section in the City of Prince George Cemetery.
