Williams Lake, B.C - The Coroner’s Inquest hearing testimony into the death of Don Lewis at McLeese Lake on August 13th, 2006 has been adjourned until Monday to hear from the chief investigating officer Sgt. Rick Murray and to hear the closing comments in the inquest.
Sara Lewis took the stand on her own behalf today to tell the jury that she loved Don Lewis every much and told of their difficulty in Lewis getting Canadian citizenship and her inability to be able to immigrate to the USA because she had three children from a previous marriage.
She asked the jury that they consider a recommendation the police not investigate themselves. She also asked that the jury recommend that better phone service is made available for the police officers operating in the Mcleese Lake area saying that her husband could have been saved had there been better communication.
Lewis bled to death, handcuffed to a tree, while the police officer who shot him left the scene to get help.
The jury has requested that it be allowed to have at least 6 hours for deliberations.
