Prince George, B.C. – Prince George North MLA Pat Bell is leaving for Beijing China today with hopes of bringing business opportunities to B.C. Agriculture.

The Provincial Agriculture Minister will travel with 15 industry representatives from beef, grain, food processing and wine. Bell states strategies are two fold while they are in China. “We are looking at moving product into the market, as well as having food producers import and process ethnic food. The Province has such a small food processing industry but a large ethnic population.”

Bell will leave today and return Saturday June 14, 2008 while other delegates from Prince George prepare for their trip to China June 14 to 21, 2008.

Another globetrotter on our nickle
Apples and oranges are already comming from China. Apple trees are being cut down in BC becouse farmers cannot compete.....is this transport of food not contributing to global problems?
Buying local and the 100 mile diet is all just verbal diarrhea from politicians. Pat what have you done to help local farmers?.....
I met a fellow that has been working in China for the last five years. He is from BC and works for the Britsh Consulate near Bejing. Interesting conversation. China is still very poor, but a middle class is starting to show up. It is good to have Canadian business people shaking hands and talking to the Chinese right now.
I bet that Pat won't say a word about China's abuse of the Tibetan people.
why would he caniche you have to remember this govt did a number on the working class in this province wage rollbacks 10percent of the injuried workers salary and it is now impossible for that worker no matter how bad they are injuried to get perment disablity. If you are worried about chinese atrocites in Tibet you could have a field day in this province
Go to China, bring back some jobs.
Does he have to come back? Maybe he can open a Wendy's and pay the workers 10¢ an hour?
We have two choices. 1) stay the same and hope things get better or 2) try to find something new and go that direction hoping things get better. Read the book "Who Moved My Cheese".
Willy,

Option two is good, because we are not giving up on option one.

For heavens sake leave Pat Bell alone. He has done many good things since he has been elected. He always has time for everyone.Has he made every single person happy? Welcome to the real world. Now go pick on someone who deserves it.
Blame it all on Nixon and his ping pong diplomacy.

The Chinese have an old saying.

"If you can't beat them in war, try commerce"

;-)
Good one owl!
And unless you get up pretty early in the morning, they will beat you!
There are no quick deals with China or Japan for that matter, and if they are willing to sign a deal quickly...you screwed up and they got you!
Ahhh; Good old Prince George we seem to have no shortage of experts on every subject.

China has been trading with Canada for 30 or more years. Japan since the 1950's. Do you really beleive they need Pat Bell to get them a bag of noodles to Richmond BC.
For your benifit Opinionated, I hope that Pat went on a one-way overpriced ticket on Air Canada. He can get his luggage lost and pay a bunch of surcharges (the taxpayers will pay) If he hurries back he won't have to pay a carbon tax surrcharge. I don't know how he stands the pace. The house sat for 42 days and they had to close it down so the 28% increased MLA's can get off on a holiday. For over 100,000 a year and a gold plated reinstituted pension plan I don't know how he gets by. Yes sir, Pat is good and we shouldn't pick on him. I don't imagine he would have an answer unless Gordo told him what to say. Gives new meaning to a yes man. End of rant.
Do you think there's a chance the chinese will keep Pat?
metalman.
