Prince George, B.C. – In a deal earlier today between CTV and Copyright Music it was announced that CTV Inc. has acquired all rights to 'The Hockey Theme.'

CBC announced last Friday that a deal could not be reached with the rights holders.

CTV will carry on the song’s legacy and ensure it will be heard among fans for years to come. The hockey theme song will be included in CTV Inc properties TSN, RDS and across Canada on CTV during coverage of the upcoming Vancouver 2010 Olympics.

CBC plans to have a contest to develop a theme for their broadcast.

WOOHOOO!!! the theme is here to stay!!!
It will not be the same coming from another broadcast station. TSN playing the theme song? Just doesn't sound right.
Maybe CBC could use the Stompin'Tom "good old hockey game" song?
Somehow,for CBC,it would seem fitting!
:-)
What is the theme song anyway. Seems like a lot of too-doo about nothing. 90% of Canadians neither watch or like the game.

CBC.... couldn't even out think a 80 year old woman. All she wanted was 2.5 million dollars, and her and her siblings was going to enjoy them selves.

CBC, no wonder they can't compete with private enterprise. Slow moving, like dinosaurs, hey we have hope they got extinct.
Thank you CTV for putting an end to this ridiculous "news story".
