Dunkley's License Increased Substantially

Dunkley Lumber has had its tree farm license increased to 880,000 cubic meters. The move took effect on Wednesday.
The increase is 76% and is being carried out in an effort to expedite the salvage of beetle killed wood in an area near Hixon and Strathnaver.
The first increase in June of 2003 was designed to try and retrieve as much of the beetle killed wood as possible, at that time, the license went from 239,000 meters to 500,000.
Virtually all of the more than three million cubic meters of Lodge pole pine trees over 80 years old are now dead.
This second increase in the allowable cut will be for three years and it is hoped it will result in the removal of about 80% of the dead trees.
The allowable cut will be reduced to 219,000 cubic meters in 2008, down from the company’s original license of 239,000
