Prince George, B.C. - The community continues to show it’s generosity as the Terry Fox Memorial is scheduled to be replaced this year.

Honda North has graciously donated $5000 to help make the project a reality. “The kindnessand assistance of our community continues to amaze me” says Dick Voneugen, member of the Terry Fox Memorial Committee, “the generosity of the people of Prince George is unmatched in the province”.

The statue was vandalized last summer and will be replaced and installed on a higher pedestal. Lighting will be added as well as new landscaping, all in an effort to deter vandalism. The development of the site will begin this week. The replacement statue was recast from the original mold and will be installed withan official dedication ceremony later this year.

The location of the statue was the start/finish line for the 17 mile “Boston to Prince George Marathon” (now the Labour Day Classic). In 1979 several months before Terry Fox ran his Marathon of Hope, he ran this race as a trial for his cross country run. It was then that he first publicly announced his intentions to cross Canada to raise awareness and funds for cancer research.

A question if I may...
How much has been donated so far,and how much is needed to complete this project?
You know, I think UNBC should have been named "Terry Fox University". I bet the grant money would be pouring in if it was such. I bet the cancer clinic would have been built a lot sooner.
Or we could rename Prince George to Terry Fox. Or change the name of BC to Terry Fox, that should about cover it.
I think, I've just been mocked
Andy,

The TF memorial was completed. Some yo yo`s last year bashed the statue up a few times. The current donated funds are to replace the centre piece.

He Speaks,

Consider the source, mocking is to good a word; egging is more his style.
A bullet proof plexiglass container is more appropriate to keep the losers from defacing this statue. Maybe an armed guard stationed in a turret with a gattling gun directed at the first idiot who gets an idea to damage this statue may be more appropriate. Mow a few down and that type of behavior will cease immediately. But really, is that the right thing to do? Probably not. Chester
Thank's Runner.
yep, Terry Fox, if he was still around today. He would be more popular than Rick Hansen. He had the making of being a world icon. Another good man cut down too early.
No statue of Steve Fonyo? I will wait.
...you will be waiting a very long time Harbinger!
