Prince George, B.C. - The University of Northern B.C. Board of Governors meets today and there are two main items on the agenda. One will be how to rectify a deficit budget.

The deficit was created when the province clawed back 2.4 % of expected funding.  For UNBC that meant about a million dollars of red ink.

The Board will be asked to approve some changes that will allow the budget to come in balanced. There has been no public discussion of those possible changes as they were first to be presented to the Board.

The second item will be the launching of a recruitment drive for a new President. Don Cozzetto’s departure was sudden and immediate.  Provost Jim Randall is acting President until July 1st.

Sudden and immediate departure. Very unprofessional. Somethings fishy in Denmark.
What's Shakespeare got to do with this? lol

Yeah, I have said before the funding formulas and the decisions being made just don't seem to add up to fiscal responsibility. Lots of promises from government for funding, lots of fingerpointing back at govt for underfunding...FIX IT ALREADY.
The reason why the President left had very little to do with the budget but rather more his total lack of respect for the rules and laws in BC for how a University has to be run.
I think its rediculus, You quit and receive a large sum of money, or?
Yopu do such a bad job they have to let you go. I say its bordering on a scam.
I suppose we can blame the people who signed this contract with this man. Yup its a scam.
I agree with the first poster.

I get the feeling that Dr. Cozzetto's departure was about more than funding, but we'll probably never know the whole story.
I don't see any silver bullet to UNBC's problem. The institution suffers from chronic mismanagment which has been going on for many years.

The enrolment numbers (FTEs) this year are about the same as 2001 and the UNBC budget is now 44% more than 2001. What has been delivered by UNBC for 44% budget increase and 60 Million infrastructure money? What has happened to that money? Next year will be worse because the enrolment trend is nagative and less students will be in year 2 than they are this year.

The BC government has warned UNBC 3 years ego that if UNBC cannot increase enrolment, the budget will be cut in coming years. I think it was a mistake to set up UNBC independent from CNC. If CNC has been promoted into University college 15 years ego things would have been different now.

At some point the government realizes that between CNC and UNBC, CNC is more crucial for the life of Northern community and that will be the end of UNBC.
