The Campbell government  is losing another  member.

Rick Thorpe, the MLA for  Okanagan-Penticton   has announced he  will not seek re-election in the  election next May.

"Rick Thorpe has made enormous contributions to the entire province and is a relentless advocate for small business and the taxpayers of the province,” said Premier Campbell.  “He has been a tireless voice in support of the Okanagan. All of us recognize his drive and his energy. I am personally grateful for his support and for Yasmin’s understanding and selflessness."

“As a heart survivor, I was taught but did not always heed the advice ‘to listen to your body’.  Today apparently my hearing has improved, and the time has come for me to say thank you for the opportunity to serve,” said Thorpe.  “I have enjoyed the opportunity to serve the public, and it has been a privilege to serve three terms as an MLA and as a Minister.”

“Accordingly, I will not seek re-election on May 12, 2009,” confirmed Thorpe.  “But rest assured I will do whatever I can do and work as hard as I can to see Gordon Campbell and our team re-elected to ensure British Columbia’s prosperity continues for another four years.”

“Mr. Premier, it has been a pleasure to serve under your exceptional vision and leadership - thanks for your friendship Gord and the opportunity to be part of the team,” concluded Thorpe.  “Most importantly to me has been the opportunity to serve my constituents.  I am truly thankful for the opportunity the voters of Okanagan-Penticton and Okanagan-Westside have given me and I remain committed to working with and for all my constituents up to the 2009 election.”

I am just a little curious about all these defections of well known ministers.Yes, I know the Liberals are going to win the next election because Vancouver and the 604 have their 2010 Games and have no clue about the Province beyond Hope. How do I know this, well my wife had a kidney transplant recently in Vancouver.I must say they are excellcent human beings and mean every bit of well meaning as we do in the North, I am as out of my element in Vancouver,as they are about situations in the North.
Quite a few have fallen ill haven't they? I have my theories but I will leave that to others with vivid imaginations ;)
Defections? I'm glad to see jakeadoonothing is going to be healthy forever. Or maybe jake wouldn't last a day under the pressure cooker these guys live with.

I wonder what theory the cork has? It should be a looloo.
yamadoopolcat yes my wife will hopefully be well and happy. If you ask any person that can figure out whom I am,which should not be to difficult,Iwould not last a day under the pressure cooker these friggin clowns including yourself feel. This is why I am not a Provincial Minister you self serving liberal.
What's a looloo? Sounds like a twin seater outhouse....
Jumping a sinking ship?
Get rid of Campbell as a dictator and get someone else to run the party, they may do better.
Just opening up doors for all these freshly unemployed forestry workers by abandoning the sinking Liberal ship.

You still haven't said anything more about the "defections" question. Or do you mean some of the BC Liberals that are not running for health reasons have defective bodies? That seems like of cruel, considering the circumstances you mentioned about your wife.
Cork - theories from a two hole looloo? Funny! I have the required vivid imagination!
I commend Rick Thorpe for serving and representing the views of business in this province. I have participated in his round table discussions in PG and found him to be a down to earth servant, wanting to understand the experience's and views of local businesses. I believe he succeeded in hearing and representing my concerns adequately. Good Health to you, Mr. Thorpe and thank you. Chester
at least we only will have to put up with campbell for one more year...and to win the election they should promote killing the carbon tax....
