Preliminary Findings for Dangerous Goods Route Before Council Tonight

Prince George, B.C. -  The preliminary findings of the Dangerous Goods Route Study will be presented to Prince George City Council this evening, The study will present maps of short term routes, and mid to long term routes. The study will feature an open house later this week and the final report will be ready by the end of the summer.
 
 The Mayor’s Committee on Seniors will be making a presentation to Prince George City Council this evening. That presentation includes a list of 8 items the committee would like the City to undertake. The items include pressing for more accessible and affordable parking at some medical buildings, full funding for the geriatric assessment and treatment unit at PGRH and a survey that asks seniors their thought on services provided by local businesses.
 
There will be two public hearings at Council this evening. One involves a development at 18th and Foothills, the other is a request to allow a liquor store to be part of the commercial development at 97 south and Sintich Road.
 
Council will be asked to allocate $34.5 thousand dollars of its allotted tourism funding for the marketing plan to increase passenger loads on the Horizon Air flights from the States. This is the marketing plan Opinion 250 presented to its readers on the weekend (click here for previous story)
 
Council will also hear details of the P.G. Airport Authority’s year end report, get details on Council remuneration and receive the City’s annual report.

Oh wow...$34,500 to assist the airline with advertising? My, my, what a kettle of fish........this money should be spread around for marketing the entire city - not just passenger loads. When did the city enter the airline business?
When the heck is that ALR committe going to decide the fate of Prince George? Seems odd this is taking so long. Or is it already decided and the committee members are booking holidays to get out of town?

The other shoe has just dropped.

The City invested 400 thousnd dollars of our tax money earlier this year in Horizon Airlines. So now we have to promote our investment.

You got it, Bridge. I think Horizon coming here is a good idea, but I do not believe that public monies should underwrite private business.
