The B.C. government is investing nearly $12 million dollars in some road improvements along Highway 16 west.
The work includes:
* An expansion project to construct an east bound climbing/passing lane, to improve traffic flow on Highway 16 from Silver to McBride Timber Road, 25 km west of Prince George. This includes intersection improvements at Silver and Sweden Roads.
* Rehabilitation projects to increase safety and extend infrastructure life:
- Mill and repave Highway 16 in Prince George from the Highway 97 intersection to the Southridge underpass, completing the Parkridge Heights to Old Cariboo Highway resurfacing project,
- Detailed design and preliminary construction phase of the replacement of the Fort Fraser Overhead on Highway 16, 42 km west of Vanderhoof,
- Complete the rehabilitation of the electrical infrastructure on the Highway 16 and Recreation Drive intersection, in Vanderhoof,
- Sealcoat of selected roads in the Cluculz Lake area,
- Resurface Muralt Road in the Beaverley East, 10 km west of Prince George,
- Pave roadside pullouts at Lower Mud River, 18 km west of Prince George.
* Mountain Pine Beetle Program to address infrastructure stress from log hauling:
- Hot in Place Recycling of 33 kms of Highway 16 from Endako to the Fort Fraser Overhead near Fraser Lake, 42 km west of Vanderhoof,
- Upgrades to side roads, including sections of Sob Lake, Blackwater, Mapes and Telegraph Roads, near Vanderhoof,
- Upgrades to portions of Blackwater Road, Lilly Lake Road, Lloyd Drive and other Nechako area roads,
- Continued upgrading of the Germanson Landing Road, north of Fort St. James.
This year's program anticipates the completion of two previously announced projects:
- Highway 16 and Blackwater Rd Intersection Improvements, 7 km east of Vanderhoof,
- Multiplate replacement at Goldie Creek, on Highway 16, near Highway 27.
