Prince George, B.C. – The Coroner’s office in Prince George has confirmed there will be an inquest called into the overnight death of a woman in Prince George RCMP cells.
An inquest is mandatory when the death occurs while "in custody".
The Coroner’s office has also confirmed an autopsy has been scheduled for tomorrow in Kamloops.
The female was one of two people taken into custody for being intoxicated in a public place just before 1:00 this morning near the College Heights pub. The RCMP say the intent was to release the male and female when they were sober.
The female was found in cells early this morning unresponsive. The B.C. Ambulance service was called and efforts to revive her were unsuccessful.
The female’s name has not yet been released.
