Three Quesnel-area residents, including a young boy, are lucky to be alive after their boat capsized into the chilly waters of Ten Mile Lake, just north of Quesnel.

R.C.M.P. Corporal Gary Senner says two males in their late twenties and a 12-year-old boy were yelling for help when officers arrived on scene, near Roger's Resort, just after 5pm Saturday evening.

Senner says the 12-year-old was wearing a life jacket, but the two men were not -- all three had been in the water for close to two hours before being pulled to shore by a rescue effort that involved police, paramedics and the assistance of local residents.

All three were taken to G.R. Baker Memorial Hospital in Quesnel for treatment of hypothermia.  And Senner says they're doing well.  He's also sending out a thank-you to those by-standers who became involved, saying, without their efforts, the incident may have had a different outcome.
