Prince George, B.C. – Canada Day was a hot one for fire fighting crews throughout the province. There are several fires in the Prince George Fire District, all in the area of Windfall Creek, south west of Tumbler Ridge. “The largest is about 120 hectares” says spokesperson Jillian Chimko, “We are seeing several lightning strikes in the area and there are several small fires.” She says personnel are on their way to the scene this hour and further information will be available in the morning. “The fire is not posing any threat to the community of Tumbler Ridge, or to any residences at this time” stresses Chimko. To the south, there is a fire that is whipping through the Ilgatchuz Park north of Nimpo Lake. That fire is said to be in the 110 hectare range. There has been no word on how it might have started or what efforts are underway to bring it under control. The major fire getting lots of news coverage over the weekend was one south of Lytton. A motor home caught fire and in moments, flames were whipping up the hillside. Highway 1 has been closed in both directions about 25 km east of Boston Bar.
