Prince George, B.C. -   Insurance company investigators return to the site of the North Central Plywood fire today.

Fire and insurance company investigators haven’t been able to do too much on the site until crews had cleared enough debris so the site was safe. Deputy Fire Chief John Lane says WorkSafe B.C. has set some guidelines for accessing the property “The rules are very stringent, but as long as the provisions are followed, investigators will be safe on the site.”

The North Central Plywood plant burned May 26th . The Prince George Fire Department has now concluded its investigation . They say the fire started in the No 2 plywood dryer and spread to the roof.

Canfor pegged the capital loss at $80 million dollars, but has yet to make a decision on the possible reconstruction of the plant. The loss of the plant put 222 workers on the unemployment line, Canfor said 30 others who were in management positions were expected to find work within the company.

pays to be in management
So the fire started in the dryer.
Thats like saying the fire started in the mill. Duh!

What was the direct cause of the fire?
The direct cause of the fire? Something combustible started to burn.
If 'lostfaith' had any idea at all about NCP, the layout of the plant and the process, he(?) would understand that the statement about where the fire started is accurate.
Dryer fires were almost a daily occurence at NCP and probably every plywood plant. In the 25 years I worked there, several fires got a bit out of hand, but the fire crew in the mill usually managed to get on top of the situation.
If you are going to comment on these stories, you should at least have a basic understanding of the issues.
If thisisme could understand what I wrote in response to what was said in the report, then he/she may wish to rewrite his/her post above.
I have done contract work in the mill myself and it wasn't a rocket scientists place of employment. Obviously.
I will ask the question again, now read carefully.

What was the direct cause of the fire?
Sounds like the Canfor mill in Grande Prairie just about went up yesterday as well.
