Prince George, B.C. - It's Over.  The strike at Brandt trasctors , which workers thought would be a long one, has come to an end after three weeks.

The members of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 115  have returned to work.

Mediator Mark Atkinson ruled there would be no changes to the tentative agreement reached on June 27, benefit coverage would take effect on July 1 and everyone would return to work on July 2.

The agreement includes wage increases of 22 per cent over four years, plus increases in the tool and boot allowances, shift premium, meal allowance and pension contributions for employees hired between July 31, 2004 and June 10, 2008.
Negotiations between the Operating Engineers Local 115 and Brandt Tractor broke down on May 26. Strike action began at noon on June 11 at all company locations in B.C.

Isn't it great to see democracy in action.
I'm sure those tyrannical union people were holding a gun to the companies head during their NEGOTIATIONS!
lostfaith, I didn't think sarcasm like that is appreciated by the workers at Brandt, just happy to be going back to work for an employer that is equally satisfied that the labour disruption is finished.

I'm sure there are voices of dissent on either side, as is generally the case during disagreements, but when standing back from the argument, clearly this is the best solution possible.

Well, having said this, it would have been better if we hadn't seen a strike at all, and the workers could have rec'd their paycheques, uninterrupted. I'm sorry to see that a union was driving the process, and clear heads on the part of the workers would have settled this sooner.
I am curious of something...how long will their doors remain open?
bessknees, that sarcasm was aimed at the anti union people such as yourself.
Take a pill ;)
Beesknees writes..."I'm sorry to see that a union was driving the process, and clear heads on the part of the workers would have settled this sooner."

When are you going to accept the fact that the workers ARE the union.

Perhaps clear heads on the part of the company would have settled this sooner.
getajob, what is it you are trying to say?
lost it all

Not saying anything..it was a question...High wages 22% increase, industry not doing great.ect..
I was reluctant to log in to an argument with people who think that they have the Knowledge to post on any item that they see fit and think that they know the whole story and can give other readers their " Informed " view. Its very easy to sit at your keyboards and type in your views and the sad thing is that ,you all think that you know it all. As you by now know ,I was one of the strikers working at Brandt and if you would care to read my rebuttal , I can tell you that my wages and benifets were cut back four years ago in a contract dispute in which the workers lost all their rights and we were just trying to get back to where we were four years ago ,but that never made it to the newspapers ,so most of you think that we got a 20% wage increase over four years. After we get the 20th % increase after the fourth year we will be up to our counterparts are at now ! But that is not the worst problem , My co-workers are paid less than me even though every day we do the same jobs and have the same schooling and the same amounts of tools ( Very Expensive $50,000 plus) I want my co-workers to get the same pension as me as they do the same work. And I will say to you all who sit at your keyboards typing in your dribble about how we should be happy to have a job....... My challenge to you all . Come down to my shop and tell me very quickly; Why is my boom pausing while I am arming ing in and digging with my bucket . Why does my Waratah measure 2 inches too short all the time ?? Why does my engine make a rattle and only when I have a drag of wood on my skidder ? Oh wait you are telling me what is a skidder??
Yeah its a tractor that pulls logs and when I have to go out to the bush I need to be able to repair it and very fast or the customer will want to know why. You see I am not just some slug that calls himself a mechanic I have trained for 30 some years , even before some of you were born and I may have even taught some of you my skills so don't prattle of to me about your whinging ideals that we should be happy just to have a job. Come down to our shop and try to do a day in our boots and I hope that the boss does not fire you for you inexperience.I can personally gaurantee you if you have the courage to come down I will give you some jobs that will tax your brain, but if you can not handle them then you should not judge us. Let ye who is without sin cast the first stone.

It's happened before when companies think they are being hard done by, they close the doors and reopen later under a new name.
Lomak did this very thing.
Good post Johndeereman.
I know exactly what your saying, as I too am a certified HD Mechanic that pulled wrenches for 30 years.
My body couldn't take it any more.
Now I have a cushy retirement job.

Some people simply don't get it dude.
Lots of jealousy around me thinks.
People still thinking with that "the company is your god attitude".
cushy retirement job?
Are you a union rep? :-)
Not that cushy but close.
Actually I shouldn't refer to a union reps job as being anything less than being a very difficult one. On call 24/7, travel, travel, travel. Hard on the family life.
