NH Connections Driving to Success

Thursday, January 5, 2012 @ 3:49 AM
Prince George, B.C.- The Northern Health Connections program has seen a 14% increase in ridership in 2011.

In 2007 (the first full year of the program), NH Connections saw 6100 residents use this service. In 2011 this program transported  more than 12,000 residents as well as thousands of pounds of lab work / medical freight.

“The largest route increases are between Prince Rupert to Prince George, Prince George to Vancouver, Fort St. John to Prince George, and Valemount / McBride to Prince George,” said Dave Christie, Regional Manager with Diversified Transportation. “We expect the ridership to continue to grow over the coming years.”

NH Connections provides non-emergency transportation for clients traveling outside their home communities and is open to anyone who needs to travel to an out-of-town medical appointment, regardless of their age or income.  Fares range from $20 to $80 return, depending on the length of travel.

“95% of the passengers have said they are happy with the service, and half have used it more than once,” said Reina Pharness, Regional Manager External Business Contracts for Northern Health. “I would like to thank all of the staff for their hard work, dedication, and compassion; it is they who make this service so great.”

In 2012, NH Connections is looking at improving the website so clients will be able to book online, and payment options for the coaches.

And so it will always be until they (the NH folks) can convince doctors to set up shop here.
